Was a great kit when they were manufactured primarily in Japan. Shoddy Chinese manufacturing and missing basic necessary components make this a big fail. Gates' quality used to be SIGNIFICANTLY higher.

Everything in the kit is made in China now. Why is this a bad thing? Just do a search online for gates timing belt china failure and you will get hundreds of reasons. When they were made in Japan, they were top notch, but no longer. The warranty covers the timing belt and water pump, not your engine after it destroys it.

Lasted 110,000 miles than I had to replace it (which is awesome). Really good quality all Japanese bearings but that was a long time ago, I just replaced the pump recently that was still good. So the pump lasted110,000 miles no leaks still quiet. Like I said gates was quality when I bought this 7 years ago. I sourced everything separately the second time for cost reasons but I bought another gates water pump which has a different cast number on because this kit was so good.

This is the second timing belt component set I've purchased from Gates for Subaru EJ25 engines, and I've been very happy with them both times. These are OEM quality products, not cheaper knockoffs. A timing belt job isn't cheap, and the consequences are expensive. I trust this kit in a family member's car, along with my daily driver Subaru.

Had issues with audio, had to call support and dowload a repair twice, not sure if i will need to do this each time i use it. Worked well when it worked but had to re- do project 3 times before completion

This Gates Timing Belt Kit was a great alternative to dealer purchased parts. This kit was installed on a 1998 Subaru Forester L, with the Phase 1 2.5l DOHC motor. All parts fit like OE, with no issues whatsoever. Timing marks on the timing belt intself were very clear and easy to find. All bearings were individually wrapped to keep dust and contaminants out. Water pump looked identical in casting to the OEM Subaru pump that came off of the car.The kit was packaged nicely in it's own "parts tray" style divider, and as always, prompt delivery via Amazon.I recommend replacing your cam seals, as well as the front main crank seal while you have the car apart. These items are cheap insurance to keep oil off of your new timing belt and ensure a smooth running car for many miles to come.

Instructions are pitiful, but with the help of YouTube and the few years I've spent working in cars, this was a fairly easy task. Comes with everything you need. Hydraulic pulley was even compressed for me. Gates makes a great product, expect this to go for another 70000-80000.

All the idlers in this kit have full width quality NSK bearings to take maximum loads. Some kits have only half width bearings on certain idlers that are only subjected to minimal loading along the belt path.The hydraulic tensioner appears to be of good quality along with the water-pump & belt. Everything fit perfectly.I would recommend this kit to anyone looking to insure against damage to these interference engines due to belt, tensioner or idler pulley failure. Cheap insurance to prevent major engine damage.
