Water damage – the bane of homeowners everywhere. A story from friends across the pond serves as a constant reminder: a storm-induced flood, a peaceful night's sleep shattered by three feet of water in the downstairs living area. The damage? Devastating. But with early detection, they might have saved themselves a fortune in repairs. Perhaps just a few inches of water caught early could have prevented disaster. Ever since, I've become a fervent believer in early warning systems.Enter the GE SmartHQ™ WiFi Water Leak Detector – my latest weapon in the fight against water woes. This isn't my first rodeo with leak detectors. My previous attempt involved a Zigbee setup – an experience that quickly convinced me user-friendliness is paramount. Thankfully, the GE SmartHQ is a breath of fresh air. The SmartHQ app is the star of the show, offering a smooth and intuitive interface that makes setup a breeze. My plan? An alarm system blanketing the danger zones – the attic, both bathrooms, and the kitchen. Thankfully, installation of the individual components is straightforward. All the necessary parts are included, and the instructions are clear. Here's the key – when mounting the probe, get that metal contact strip nearly touching the floor (assuming that's your chosen location). Water completes the circuit when it touches the metal, triggering the alert system. Simple and effective. Now, the not-so-smooth part – the app setup. Connecting the hub and getting the sensors recognized with unique identifiers was a bit of a challenge. The app interface could be a bit more user-friendly in this stage of the process. Another question mark – battery life. The sensors take 2 AAA batteries, and while I don't know the exact lifespan, their placement in potentially damp environments means I'll stick with non-rechargeable batteries for safety's sake.Despite the app setup hiccup, the GE SmartHQ system earns a solid 4-star review. The individual units are easy to install, and the SmartHQ app (once you get past the initial setup hurdle) offers a user-friendly platform for monitoring your home's potential water woes. The peace of mind knowing you might just prevent a disaster like my friends' flood is priceless. Sure, the app interface could be smoother, and the battery life remains to be seen, but for early water leak detection with minimal hassle, the GE SmartHQ is a solid option. So, if you're looking to add a layer of protection to your home against the perils of water damage, the GE SmartHQ system is definitely worth considering. Early detection can mean the difference between a minor inconvenience and a major catastrophe – and that's a price tag worth paying.

I installed these in a few places in my home, they were a little difficult to get paired with the android app. the automated process couldn't detect them and I had to add them manually. Once working, one alarmed and it was completely dry. cleared the alarm and it just kept coming back. After putting the sensor in question in a ziploc bag with a large desiccant packet for a few days with no change I emailed support describing this. I didn't get a response for a few days and I finally removed the batter to reset the device. this didn't work, so I deleted it from the app and re-added it. it is no longer alarming. I finally got a response from GE support asking for the model and serial number of my appliance. THey clearly did not read my email. also I don't see a serial number on the sensor, and the software says that all of the items are unavailable, where the serial number and mode numbers should show up.

Pros:It eventually connects and seems to work though I did not test it.Cons:It took several attempts until it connected to my phone.

My acquisition of this product was rather recent but I must admit it’s the soundest decision that I’ve made. The process of initiating this service was rather simple, after a few moments it was already configured and integrated with my wireless network. The helpful inbuilt app made the entire experience tranquil and aimed at every goal at each turn.I was really amazed of the sensitivity of the sensors making me see the importance of having it. I am able to notice and rectify all leaking problems at an early stage. Not to mention that the design of this device is neat and good looking and thus enhances my interior design without appearing out of the ordinary. In general, the GE Water Leak Detector should be a must in every home. The ease of efficiency of putting it up, sensitive sensors, and alarm settings qualify it as a superb security gizmo.

Got this to watch for leaks in our basement and works perfectly. Setup was very easy and comes with clear easy to follow instructions. The app this uses have lots of other features for GE appliances that don't apply to this product but it works well. I set this up several months ago and the battery life is superb still showing full battery. I tested it's alert speed by intentionally placing it in a small puddle of water and happy to report I instantly had a notification on my phone. All around a great device!!
