Was a oe part so it fits perfectly. I replaced it along with a bad defrost heater just to be safe. The fridge is 20yrs old and I want another 20 without problems

I paid extra to get a GE, made in the USA part. Item came with the sticker put on poorly. The original was stamped with GE and made in the USA. New part did not. I think I got a cheap knock off.

I watched several YouTube videos trying to diagnose my problem with freezer icing up and refrigerator getting warm. All fingers pointed to a defective timer, decided to go for it and replace it . Install was easy enough, after 2.5 to 3 weeks still had same issue, decided to purchase the defroster heating unit. To make a long story short 😪 still had the same problem, turns out the new timer I had just purchased was defective;discovered this after installing old timer back into my refrigerator. Problem solved but I have a defective new part and now apparently the window to return it has closed.

Our 1997 GE side by side refrigerator wasn’t keeping food cold the freezer worked great though. We priced new units and read reviews and it seemed new units with computer boards had much higher failure rates within 3yrs of purchase. Figured it was worth a shot at trying to fix ours. Watched some YouTube videos and replaced this part and heater defrost about 4 months ago. No problems so far.

Pro's: It works and is still working after several months. The previous Sears one lasted only one year. Sadly it costed me four times as much as this one and took over a week to get in.This is a perfect match, just plug it in and it is works. The Vendor was very prompt and the price was excellent. Highly recommend them.Sorry for only four stars at this time. I want to see it make a year then will give it five.

When I heard the dreaded word that our refrigerator was getting warmer I thought first of the defrost timer which in my experience is prone to failure. Unlike the old days this one is mounted in the refrigerator next to the light rather than the usual spot under the refrigerator where it is exposed to heat and dust. It turned out the timer was OK and the defrost heaters were defective. Since I saved at least $35.00 buying this from Amazon I'm glad to have it as a spare. I will probably need it eventually. I installed the new one and kept the original as a spare. It's working fine. Easy do-it-yourself project. Takes about 5 minutes and saves big bucks over a service call. All you need is a Phillips screw driver. If you have never done it before you should probably unplug the refrigerator while you change the timer.

My 14 year old GE Profile evap coil in the freezer was frozen solid, and I found that the defrost mechanism was not functioning at all. There are three components--this timer, a defrost thermostat, and a defrost heater--and I wasn't positive which was bad so I did all three. I got the thermostat locally, only because it was out of stock here. You can read my heater review if you'd like. This timer was easily replaceable and was exactly the same as the stock one that came out. After replacing this and the other two parts everything worked perfectly, and the fridge is now off more than its on which is opposite of before. This timer triggers the defrost cycle every 16 hours, for 35 minutes per cycle. The compressor and fans are off during that time, and the heater can be seen glowing in the freezer compartment. It turns off before the 35 minutes are up as it's controlled by a thermostat that snaps on the coil in the freezer. Anyway, good product works as designed...
