After a recent failure of a Garmin brand retractable, and loss of a $1,000 receiver in the woods, trying this one. Appears to be a little more robust so far.

It says for many items including GPS units. But apparently not the Garmin Montana 700 GPS unit. It's only 14 ounces, but it's heavy enough it won't retract back up all the way, and actually lets out a bit with typical walking/hiking. Like the idea, just not strong enough.

Strong spring, Long line, Durable retractor box and many attachment options make it a very good solution for me. Hanging multiple keys and FlashLight.

I purchased this keeper to attach a wireless mic to my firefighting gear so it would not hit the ground if it fell off my gear. The various mounting options allowed me to configure a solution that works for me. It works great and has saved the mic from hitting the ground or dropping in the water several times already.

Great product!Used their mic retractors in the fire service for years then converted my old retractors to hunting use for my range finder with great results even though they weren’t designed for that purpose. This Gearkeeper RT4 is more than up to the job of handling a range finder. My only negative comment could be noise from the cable in some situations.Also- I ordered 2 of these together, one was “as advertised” one didn’t have the advertised mounting accessories. But exchange for correct item was painless through Amazon though it meant a trip to the post office.

This seems to be a pretty good quality item. I like the cord, retraction force, velcro belt loop, and quick connect keeper system.BUT it's not fully 'saltwater proof' like the packaging says, because the two smallest split rings (one on the 6" lanyard piece and one that is packaged with the stick-on plastic loop) are both slightly magnetic, indicating some type of 400 series stainless, which is rust-RESISTANT but not rust PROOF, and certainly not saltwaterproof. This material WILL last longer than plain steel, and simply washing it off after use and/or a squirt of WD40 will give a long service life. Also, the 'Nokia style' lanyard loop piece (with the very thin loop on the end) shown in the product photo is NOT in the package. Instead, a simple cord loop, two-tone color sort of grey with black, and about 3" long and about 3/32" thick is included. The other pieces shown are in the kit.Overall, a good purchase, but if I needed the tiny diameter loop as shown I'd be out of luck.

I ordered this product as well as the one from Nikon. After inspecting and testing both I would guess they might even be manufactured out of the same facility. They look and feel very similar. Biggest difference between the products is this one has more ways to attach and secure your gear. Noise, retraction strength, materials, durability I would guess to be identical between the products. You pay $5 more for this setup but you gain several additional ways to attach your gear. The metal ring on both the Nikon and this Gear Keeper are loud if you don't control them. If you plan to use this product for hunting I would recommend putting a small piece of electric tape on the base of the unit to muffle the sound of the hard plastic hitting upon retraction and you may consider trying to coat the metal ring as well. Both products seem to be well made and I don't have concerns about reliability or use in the field. You can get the Nikon one in camouflage where this is all black. If the camo is required go with the Nikon; otherwise this is a more versatile setup and I would prefer this to any of the other brands available online. The pieces you get in this set are interchangeable with the Nikon so if you have both setups like I do you can use the clips from this setup to clip to the Nikon. The only thing that does not work is the metal pin that you screw into the back of this if you were securing it to a strap, bag, or shirt. That pin will only work with this device.

It's a little big, but it holds my camera just fine. I have it hanging off my shorts when fiahing rivers so that it doesn't accidently fall into the river. I have an Olympus tough camera and it holds the weight just fine. No complaints here!

This worked great on a two week hunt. I used one of the lanyards provided on my laser range finder. I put the belt loop on next to my rangefinder case. I kept the rangefinder in the case until I needed it. When I was in close pursuit of the elk I would pull it out and use it then let it dangle by the tether.Worked great and I plan to use for GPS in the future.
