About this item

  • Set includes hex, Torx, Phillips and slotted bit sockets
  • Broached for use with 1/4" and 3/8" conventional square drive ratchets

The Pass-Thru socket and GearRatchet ratchet system by GEARWRENCH was designed to improve productivity and access on every job. The GearRatchet ratchets need as little as 5° to move fasteners vs. 30° for standard wrenches and are 40% stronger than standard ratchets by eliminating the drive tang. The ratchets are up to 50% thinner than standard ratchets providing superior access to even the most hard-to-reach fasteners.

The price was great on this set. Have used mine several times and they work great when your in an open area or when your in a tight spot. Either way, you can't go wrong with this set. You can use the pass thru wrenches or a regular ratchet on this set.

The bits break pretty easy and I found a couple duplicates I was missing a t15 but had a different Allen bit instead. This would be good for home use not so good for daily use by a mechanic

These fit into the craftsman set I bought. Seems to be a nice kit. Gearwrench makes good tools and you get what you pay for.

I have the Craftsman set of this as well, and comparable parts to this set come in at around twice the price. The Craftsman torx and hex socket set is quite low quality, in stark contrast to the regular Craftsman socket set I bought 12 years ago, which is amazing and never gave me a lick of trouble. The Craftsman Torx and Allen sockets have hit or miss machining and assembly. The only thing consistent about them is the etching in the Chrome. After the Craftsman T27 piece of garbage stripped out a Brembo screw, and the backup Autozone set did a much better job, I decided it was time for a change.Ordered this GearWrench set, and the Wiha 3/8 Torx Set, the Wiha costing as much for just 3/8" torx as this whole GW set, so a price factor of more than 2, Wiha on pricing par with Craftsman. You can pop the lid off the bottom half of the tray without breaking anything, so you can the put the face-open tray in a tool chest drawer.Tested GW T27 Torx fit into same Brembo screw, and fit is snug and correct. See other reviews for GW fitment into sockets. The GW chrome bit holders have inconsistent etching of bit size, example "T30", the top half of the print will be more faded than the bottom half. The chrome bit holders are also bigger than they need to be, and thus clunk with their unconventional texture and shaping in order to use the special flat GW pass-through ratcheting bit holder. However, and this is a big one if you look at a tool purchase as something that should last you decades:The Wiha build quality is just plan better. The socket tips are higher quality. The finish is better, the machining precision is better. Apparently capitalism is alive and well with the socket industry; you get what you pay for, give or take of course. The Wiha have their own troubles, and I understand there is very little clear reviewing out there of where to get a HIGH QUALITY torx set for under $100.I am still on the fence about whether to return this Gear Wrench set. I do not in my gut want it to be my primary set, and I have reservations about paying this amount to have it as a backup set. Will figure that out before the end of the month. With Craftsman, I use to be able to have mu cake and eat it too. But those days are apparently over.

Excellent set; works with both standard 1/4 and 3/8 drive ratchets, as well as Gearwrench's "vortex" pass-through system ratchets. Seems well designed and very functional; I'm happy with the selection of sockets. An added bonus for me was the capability to use these sockets with the ratcheting screwdriver set from Gearwrench as well, which means I can use those these sockets with the large-handle, t-handle, and stubby ratcheting screwdrivers (as well as their extensions, including the flex) that came with the screwdriver set. Overall, when it comes to something like this, Gearwrench may not be the top of the line, but it's well suited for the at home DIY-er and/or weekend mechanic.

These fit both square and Gear Wrench drives. I have both kinds of ratchets and I prefer to use the Gear Wrench Drive, but, the square sockets are good when you need it. Very functional even if you have only a standard square drive. As a bonus, because these sockets fit Gear Wench socket wrenches, you get a thicker base that adds strength to the socket. You'll definitely strip out your wrench before you split one of these sockets. The case is nice to keeps the sockets organized. There is a very good assortment of bits. With a couple of square drive handles, you have a really nice set of accessory screwdrivers with the added benefit of using them in a ratchet when you need it.
