First thing, I love that this Gempler's Soil Probe is one rod. It isn't broken up into pieces that I need to install. The only thing I had to do was attach the foot pedal with the included hex key. This is made of a high-quality metal that can withstand a beating. The handles are placed at the appropriate width, and the foot pedal is adjustable to your specifications. The only difficulty I found was removing soil from the probe. I had to use a screwdriver to unpack it instead of their being some kind of release-assistant built into the probe. However, this soil was pretty compacted in this area so that could have been the issue as well. I wouldn't go and fault Gempler's for that, but it is worth mentioning. This is a great starter soil probe if you're interested in doing soil testing for your lawn & garden. I couldn't ask for a better quality product!

This works well at getting soil samples with the tip ground to a sharp edge around the round hole which does a good job of cutting into the soil. The large handle helps with pushing into the ground and guiding it while also using the foot pedal to push into the ground. The foot pedal holds well in place and really makes a difference with getting into harder soils.This is a really nice tool and it has some thick gauge metal on all parts and feels substantial when held. I have no fear that this would bend or break trying to get a soil sample.There are cheaper soil probes out there but I can't speak to their quality in comparison. Sometimes, you get what you pay for.
