Unscrew worn out tip, screw on a new sharp one. What could be easier? Oh yeah add a tiny bit of light duty thread locking fluid to threads, the tip tends to loosen up and disappear after some time.

It worked perfectly to replace the broken tip I had in my center punch. The hard part for me was when I dropped my punch, the tip broke of inside the threaded area. It did take some studious work to unscrew the broken tip inside the punch, but it worked out well and the replacement tip was a perfect fit.

Bought these replacement points for my old USA made model 79 automatic center punch. I was a little unsure if they would fit due to a website saying they may not fit punches older than ten yrs. the points are made in India now :( But when i received them it fit perfectly in the old General model 79 punch and also fit my L. S. Starrett model 18A automatic center punch :) They are an excellent value at $11.00 and should fit your general 79 punch or starrett 18A both USA made punches.J.R. , ASE Master Automobile Technician

Bought these replacements tips for my #79 GENERAL automatic center punch, but it seems that GENERAL must have change the treading pattern of the point over the years. Didn’t work on any of my 3 punch that I have bought around 10 years ago. Not the same thread pattern!
