What ACANORA GENERATOR INTERLOCK KIT Can Give You !

  • A Great Safer Life Starts Here --- Using utility power and a generator at the same time can be very dangerous and can result in burned out circuit loads or a burned out generator, etc., so a generator interlock device is required when using a generator to power a circuit breaker panel. Failure to install an interlock device can be fatal to linemen or utility workers!

This simple mechanism allows you to block A breaker so generator isn't connected at the same time as your main electrical switch is closed. So you either have power from the grid or from your generator and not from both.

The parts are made with precision and have a good, quality feel. They are made of heavy material which appears to be very durable. It arrived complete with all screws and a drill bit as well as all necessary stickers.

This was easy to install and does what it's supposed to do. These things are way over priced.

I measured the critical distance between the main breaker and my newly installed generator breaker on my panel before ordering and found it to be approximately 1/8" greater than the range specified by the manufacturer. I ordered the switch anyway. When installing it, I distributed that 1/8" evenly, carefully centering the switch between the main breaker and the generator breaker. In spite of the extra space on my panel, everything about the switch works as designed.

This is exactly what you want if you're connecting an alternative power source to your breaker box ("alternative" as in a generator or whole home battery, anything meant to take over from the power companies mains). You mount this on the metal face of your home breaker box in such a manner as to prevent both the "mains" from being on (the big break up top which controls the connection to your power company) and the 2-20 breaker just below that in your box that you have wired to the plug you use to connect your generator/whole home battery/whatever to your homes wiring.Very simple, the way it's shaped, only the mains breaker or only the auxiliary power source breaker can be on (or of course, both can be off, but with this safety interlock installed never can both be ON which is what you absolutely do NOT want because if they are you can backfeed power to the main lines and harm/kill any workers working it.)Just make sure you pick the one that fits the physical shape of your breaker box positions and you're good to go 👍

Electrician here. There are folks out there that hook up generators to their panels all by themselves and those folk often skip this step. Skipping this step is dangerous. An interlock prevents one from powering the panel from the source and the generator simultaneously, therefore avoiding catastrophe. They skip this step because they don't want to switch breakers and get the generator inlet breaker in the proper location and/or "they know which breaker is for the generator," and don't need and interlock because "they're not stupid enough to power them both simultaneously."What they fail to consider is that someone ELSE, perhaps ignorant of the generator altogether, or someone unknowledgeable in the logistics of circuitry; that someone may experience a power issue of some sort and open the panel, flipping breakers all willy nilly, trying to rectify their own problem.BANG.It happens. That's WHY interlocks exist and WHY they should ALWAYS be installed. "Idiot-proof" is the term that comes to mind. Don't be an idiot. Use an interlock.
