Door operation is much quieter now. Just watched an online video to see how it's done. Pretty simple to install.

The traveler on my Genie garage door opener was 30+ years old. All of a sudden, when trying to open the garage door, the motor would run and there was a loud grinding/bucking sound from the screw drive, but the door wouldn't open. Genie's web site describe exactly that symptom as indicating time to replace the traveler. This part is OEM, exact match for my model of opener, installed in minutes and restored the operation of my garage door opener.

If your garage door opener makes a loud chattering noise when it's trying to open the door then this is the part you need. If you have a screw drive style opener then this "trolley" rides on that screw. The teeth in the trolley that engage with the screw eventually break causing that loud chattering noise and the door to stop opening.

I was worried when my garage door stopped opening and was making a terrible grinding sound that I might have to replace the opener, as it is probably about 30 years old and doesn't appear to be made anymore (genie excellerator). I was very relieved to find this part for a very reasonable price. In my case I was able to barely slip the old one off and the new one on by tilting it an angle to make it fit in the gap at the front end of the track. The process took about 10 minutes and I didn't need a single tool! Garage is working great again and hopefully this part lasts 30 years like the one it is replacing. I slathered white lithium grease liberally on the new part before installing as my part came dry.

Door carriage was just as described. Awesome product that GENIE came up with. New part was exactly the same as the old part. Fitment was perfect and was easily exchanged.Watched an Internet video, and had the job done in 15 minutes. Under the advice column... pre grease the carriage before installing, grease the entire screw after installing especially where the joints are, this is the most critical area of the screw. And most importantly (IMO) check the balance of the door. It should stay stationary with the bottom of the door at 4-5 feet off the ground. If!!! The door is on the heavy side (and mine was) it will prematurely wear out the carriage! The door opener was designed to move the door, NOT lift it! Again “in my opinion” !!!

I noticed my ISD1000 (1/2 HP) garage opener was operating jerky then one day when I opened the door it went up a little then slammed back down to the ground. The motor would run and the screw drive would turn but the carriage would slip. When I assisted the garage door, it would go up but then when it got to a segment in the screw drive, it would slip. When I removed the old carriage, the teeth was mostly stripped out. This replacement worked perfectly and the door seemed to open more smoothly. To Remove/Install:Do not release the mechanism with the door half way up. IT WILL SLAM DOWN!With the door at a the closed position and the carriage closest to the door, pull the red cord on the carriage (unlock it), unfasten the track mounting nut from the wall mount (1 nut on my system). Then move the rail to the side by a couple inches making sure you dont sever any sensor wires. You will need just enough space to slide out the old carriage and in with the new one (with plenty of grease applied). Note the direction it goes on (locking level toward the garage opener). Transfer the cord, lock the carriage, grease the track and you should be good to go. My new carriage came with the magnet already installed in the correct holder so all I had to transfer was the red pull cord. Took me less than 10 minutes and just 1 person.

This product was the answer to my garage door dilemma as it would not open up, just make a terrible clanking noise. After reviewing a how to video on You Tube, we were able to diagnose that a new carriage assembly was needed. We followed the video to install new one but only after modifying video instructions as there was not enough clearance to remove old carriage as shown on video. We had to unscrew the motor housing to lower it a bit and while I was up on the ladder holding on to it, I was able to lower it enough to give the needed clearance so that my fiance was able to slide off old carriage and slide in new one as shown on video. After screwing motor assembly back in, we pressed the garage door opener button and the garage door opened and closed! Garage door opener now works like new!

The original trolley was all metal. This one is plastic, aside from the mechanism that engages the screw drive and the release. But with that said, it lines up perfectly and does the job. It is an acceptable replacement for the original part.Edit: 9 month update. Still working just fine.

this 36179R.S was the "universal" carriage for my 15+ year genie garage door opener. even with a third party home warranty program, this was still the best solution time-wise and money-wise. it took about 20 minutes, start to finish and most of the time spent was looking for the correct bolt sockets and wrenches, finding and moving a ladder.i also agree with other reviewers that if you can clean the grease from the end of the screwdrive that you will be unbolting, you will avoid a grease smear cleanup after you are finished with the mechanical repairs. now that i know what to expect, i would use painters tape to tape of a 2 foot square next to the screw assembly next to studmounts. if you dont care about some grease trails on your sheetrock, then it will be a very quick and simple job.this purchase was spawned about the loss of opening traction with the garage door opener, it would grind and vibrate the entire screw assembly for opening. closing was not an issue and after replacing this screw drive assembly, all is quiet and fast for opening and closing.
