I used this cover to replace a 20+ year-old dryer vent cover. This easily popped in and was secure with a rubber ring around the edge. It opened smoothly when the dryer ran and closed behind it when off.

9-10-24: Update: I engineered a antibird cage out of some galvanized steel hardware cloth to keep the birds out. I drilled four holes and used four sheet metal screws with large washers to hold the "bird screen in place. I blew out the dryer duct with my old electric leaf blower before installing this new duct cover. The rubber seal likes to fall off when holding the vent cover so make sure it is in place while you tighten the screws down so it's pinched tightly between the house and vent.Good materials and design. Should hold up for a very long time. I wish it had a small screen on it to keep the birds out. They like to nest in dryer vents in my neighborhood. I will design a small screen (galvanized contractor fabric) to keep the birds out before I attach it to the house.

I bought these as a replacement to the broken plastic ones on the house. These look 10x better and they open and close perfectly. I think it would be nice if it opened wider - but it works. I like that I do not have to clean the grating that was on the plastic one.
