These copper nails are a little smaller than other stump killers I've had. But I don't think that matters. You put copper in a tree and the tree dies. It's that simple. If you're concerned about bending the nail by inserting it, drill a slightly smaller hole before you put the nail in.

I dislike finding them in the trees on my property that I care about, but I don’t imagine anything else killed two maples, a cedar and this Ash since the three so far have had copper spikes.

Compared to other sets on Amazon, they are pricey. The drill bits are hard enough to drill into my ash stump. You get enough copped nails to remove an unwanted stump or a medium sized tree.Not sure why they asked for the softness, copper has a known softness.
