As good or maybe better than the really high priced filters. Gobe is now Urth by the way. Same filters, same company, just upgraded the name. I have purchased an untold number of filters over time; cheap ones, top of the line ones when I had an extra $100, and finally I tried the Gobe brand. I have 9 lenses (professional photographer) and have switched them all to Gobe filters, the UV, ND, and polarized. Clear glass, almost becoming invisible, easy to screw on and off, no jamming, and as a nice bonus, for each one you buy, they will plant a tree! Nice touch. Get 'em. You'll love 'em.

This is the second UV filter I have invested in for this particular lens (Tamron 24-70) and it’s worth every penny. I originally bought the Amazon Basics 82mm filter as I had one of a previous lens and it seemed excellent quality, however the one that arrived seemed much less durable and made more cheaply. When I took outdoor images I got lots of sun spots in my images (never had an issue on previous lens with amazon basics) so invested in this Gobe 82mm UV 2 Peak instead and this is excellent.Made really well, has a nice quality weight feel to it. Doesn’t affect sharpness of images or colour quality. Does exactly what you expect it to. It’s worth spending the extra on a good UV filter to go on your expensive glass as the cheap versions are just not good enough.

After searching various resources on filters this company has some of the most consistent reviews on their product line. There was a reason I bought this filter because of an accident my wife, she's the photographer, had with one of her favorite lenses a Canon 24 70. She uses it on a variety of shoots. The previous filter on the Canon cracked which freaked my wife out completely. When she got home I discovered it was the filter not the lens. We had a shoot right after the Gabe filter showed up and our images were terrific. And yes filter do protect the glass on your lens. . .so buy good filters. . .get great images as well.P.S. the filter that cracked. . .the shoot my wife was on was in August heat a lot of in sun out of sun right into air-conditioning. 5 or 6 times of that and the filter, it was inexpensive by the way, just cracked. Popped actually. You get what you pay for.

I put a UV filter on every lens I own, and usually invest in a specific brand that costs double or triple the cost of this Gobe filter. However after trying a Gobe UV/Polarizing filter on one lens (separate review published here on Amazon) and being impressed with the quality, I tried a second UV filter for a new lens purchase. It arrived in a flat-pack box (unlike the UV+polarizer which is in a nice round container and a cloth sack). This is the 16-layer UV filter (Gobe also offers a 12-layer). To test the lens I screwed it into my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 attached to a Nikon Z7 and did a set of photos at all f stops and zoom levels, taking landscape, portrait and test pattern shots with the filter on and off, then examined the results on my high-res computer monitor. What was surprising was that at all f stops and zoom settings the images with Gobe UV filter in place were as sharp and crisp as with the filter off: this is a great filter! On the landscape shots, I could see the images enhanced by the UV filter, improving contrast and making the results slightly sharper (it was morning when I did the test, so some water vapour in the air the UV filter cut through). On the portrait (indoor) and test shots there was no degradation at all by the filter. These Gobe 16-layer filters are half the price of my usual UV filters, and the tests really impressed me. I can strongly recommend these filters to anyone who wants a UV filter and lens front element protection.

I'm particular about filters. The "purists" insist that they won't put an extra glass surface between their lenses and their subjects. I'm of the mind that it's better to protect a $$$$$ lens with a $$ filter. That being said, I have discarded bargain filters that were included in some of my lens purchases (both modern digital and vintage manual focus lenses) because I didn't want to degrade my final images. I've used the top end European filters, but mainly one of the Japanese suppliers known for their excellent multilayer anti-reflective coating. This manufacturer has several "levels" of filter quality, and I have tended toward their higher tiers. That's a long intro to MY intro to Gobe.I had seen their filters on Amazon, but not paid attention. An acquaintance allowed as how Gobe was his *only* source for filters and lens adapters, so I did some research. I found consistently good feedback and decided that I would give one a try. If you're considering Gobe, read up on the feature/quality steps, as they offer three. I wanted the 16-layer coating, but decided on the middle level with Japanese optical glass. I was impressed with the smudge resistant and hydrophobic outer layer for the purpose of ease of maintenance. When it arrived, I compared it to one of the top level filters from my usual supplier, one that happened to arrive the same day.. The rim is precisely made, the threads are clean of burrs and the filter turns onto the lens smoothly. While my inspection is not scientific, my calibrated eyeball is pretty good. I found the level of anti-reflectivity to be equal to the other filter. It was clean out of the package, where the Japanese filter required removal of some light haze from the packaging. I eyeballed various surfaces, textures, and light sources through the Gobe and found NO variations or irregularities that I could imagine affecting image quality.I have this filter mounted on a relatively high end Olympus digital lens. I will report back if I see any reason to suspect that it is either inferior to the filters I have been using OR if it impacts image quality vs the lens without a filter. But for now, I can endorse Gobe with some enthusiasm.

I gave this as a Christmas gift to a fellow amateur photo enthusiast. He was very pleased with the quality and the fit. He particularly the way the filter was packaged. He is keeping the heavy-duty cardboard box in his photo bag.

This is a fantastic filter. It does everything I would expect and demand of a filter from a big name camera builder selling at more than three times the cost. The recyclable cardboard box is a nice touch because it provides excellent protection during shipping and since I don't intend to take one of these filters off later because it's main function is to protect an expensive lens, the fancy containers other manufactures include end up as wasted money because you are only going to need them once. One reviewer said this filter turned all of his pictures green because he noticed the outer anti-reflective layer was reflecting a green color. This is rather misinformed since the colors reflected by the anti-reflective coating represent a part of the visible light spectrum that is being rejected by the anti-reflective coating because it is part of an unwanted internal reflection and not part of the image you want. The color of the reflected light on the face of the lens or filter in no way has any effect on the picture you take, but help you to see how well the coating is rejecting unwanted internal reflections.. There are eight different coatings on each side of this filter to control internal reflections and the multi coating tech needed to get the eight layers on each side of the filter are an expensive process. Most cheaper lenses and filters have a faint violet reflective appearance because they have only one type of coating which is generally applied to both sides of the glass while the better filters and lenses may have an amber looking reflective layer that indicates a better multi coated lens or filter with more than one type of coating. The green color of the most expensive lenses and filters was for years exclusively found only on Carl Zeiss lenses under their "T*" logo brand of lens and filter coatings.I need to also mention that among the top tier optical sellers of filters, few of them actually make the filters sold under their official brand names because the filter market is much smaller than the lens business and not a huge profit generator, so they farm filter production out to specialty companies. For many years Minolta was the only maker of the raw optical glass used for lens making that had the same optical properties as the glass from the Zeiss JANA works. Since Sony purchased Minolta it is no surprise to me they are able to feature Zeiss branded lenses on their higher end cameras since they would be easily able to meet the requirements needed to properly use the Zeiss trademarks under license. Here are two pictures taken with identical lenses with one lens with the T* coating and the other without any ant-reflective coatings.Zeiss says that the "T" in the name of those lenses and filters means "Transparency" because their optical properties "make the glass disappear"
