This is my second Gold Tone banjo and I've always been impressed with their quality. Not high end, but a good sturdy playable instrument. I'm enjoying it immensely and so glad that I could find this model on Amazon. Not too many vendors can keep these in stock. Be aware the any string instrument will need proper setup. I'm an experienced instrument repairman and it took some work to get it playing right. Biggest issue was th hat the pickup was jammed against the pot at a weird angle. The wing nuts on the clamp were forced on and VERY difficult to loosen. The truss rod and coordinator bar adjustments went very well. All my picker friends want a banjitar now!!

Its a bit heavy but easy to play. Plays like a guitar plays. I'm using the Hal Leonard Guitar Method book. I'm learning. Its. fun.

I just tried to retension the head and change the strings for the first time on my Gold Tone AC-6 and I now strongly wish I never bought the damn thing. The tensioners slide right off the rim if you try to put any real tension on it - which I needed to do after the head stretched out a little and got a little too sinky in the middle at the bridge. I tried using pliers to keep them in place but they kept wanting to fall off. Every other banjo I've ever seen has hooks that go all the way around the rim of the head, but nope - not this one. They seem as though they are built to fail. Then then the end piece - that has to be the worst design I have ever seen. There are pins that the ball end of the string are supposed to fit around and the first natural tendency of the string is to pop right out until you get tension on it, meaning that you have to have three or four hands to change strings on this thing. And to make matters worse, the pins are free-floating and can freely slide out of the setting in EXACTLY the same direction you need to push the strings down over them.So now I am left to figure out whether it is possible to retrofit this monstrosity with parts that actually work well, or if I have to sell it knowing what kind of junk I'm selling and taking the loss. Thanks for putting me in this position, Gold Tone. The banjitar sounds OK and plays good for the price, but I am going to be avoiding Gold Tone in general from now on because there has to be something wrong with any company that would foist a Chinese-made POS like this on an unsuspecting public. You should realize that you only get to play the caveat emptor game for so long before you've destroyed your reputation forever.

I have a Luna 6-string that took forever to set up to where I want it. Added an expensive piezo pickup and never got to where I wanted to be.We really needed a banjo for a couple of songs so I decided to take a chance on the Gold Tone and am very happy that I did. It arrived a couple of days before our next gig and was pleased as hell that it was set up perfectly. Neck relief, action and intonation were dead on!Plugged it into my Fishman Loudbox and was again super pleased with the sound from the pickup. The resonator was a little off center but that was easily corrected. The advertised point of a pre-tensioned head was also dead on. Greatly appreciated if you have ever had to DIY set one.I was a bit concerned about the volume pot being located on the head rather than on the tone ring. I checked the installation and saw that my concerns were unfounded.A big selling point was the included Gator case which works out to be an effective $100 discount that only this vendor offers.Another big plus is that this instument works the best with regular electric guitar strings. The tail piece is built to accept ball end strings so no need to locate and pay extra for special strings.Neck, fingerboard and fret leveling are, again, dead on.It's a real banjo sound from a Remo head that, right out of the box, will have a guitarist putting a little more variety into their repertoire instantly. Not expensive, great sound, inexpensive to maintain, playable through amplification right of of the box. Nothing better.

Fantastic instrument. Sounds great amplified or unplugged. Zero learning curve for any guitar player. A more comfortable Ganjo to play than any of the other ones out there that I have personally test played in the music stores, for example---- Fender Rustler, Dean Backwoods Six or Deering Boston,in my opinion. All good instruments but not exactly made for guitar players with small or average size hands. A word of advice, Be prepared to pay out another $70 to $100 to have this instrument set up by a good instrument Luthier. After this Ganjo was properly set up it plays like a dream. $400 well spent. I am looking forward to many years of use in the pubs playing folk & Irish music with this Ganjo. HEY GUITAR PLAYERS. You want that banjo sound. BUY THIS GANJO. Ron J. Ann Arbor, Michigan

A really nice 6 string banjo. Love the tone. The banjo came pretty well set up, all I had to do is lower the action slightly to suit my playing. .
