I bought this for my son for a hundred miler in the Smoky Mountains. It fit his Granite Gear pack well. We had some heavy rains and his pack stayed dry. At night he cinched it up and left the pack under the tents vestibule. When packed it didn't take up much room and the weight is reasonable.

I used this on a REI Mars 80L pack. I took it on the W Trek in Torres del Paine. On certain days, we consistently had 80+ kph winds, but this fly stayed in place without becoming a windsock. One caveat might be that I'm 200cm tall, so I may have been more of a wind-block to my pack than some people. We never had a huge downpour, but it kept things dry in light rain (which is painful above 80 kph).

Truly don't think it is necessary to own a cover of any kind. Non of them fit well, they want to blow off in wind gust, and pull off with limbs brushing up on them. Get a good light backpack, use dry bags, and line your back pack with a trash bag. A trash bag is much lighter too. If you must use one this one is ok. I only carried it once and probably will never take it again.

I've got a Jansport Carson 80 external frame pack. This fits it like a dream, even when I have my tent and other gear strapped to the outside. It's kept my pack dry when worn and even when I've had my pack hung up in a tree overnight during a thunderstorm! Can't ask for more than that.

I haven't actually used this pack cover yet, but just having it makes me feel more secure. My pack is Granite Gear, as well as many of my accessories (stuff sacks, etc), and their products never cease to preform. The rain fly I ordered is the one sized to fit my size pack, but it's still quite large. Better too big than too small, though, eh? I don't feel like it's so big that it'll leak or come off, but I have to pull the elastic a lot to get it secure around my pack. I had a Sea to Summit cover that I borrowed from a friend, and I really enjoyed that one. It seemed to fit better than the Granite Gear, and it served its intended purpose even in heavy rains. As mentioned, I can't speak much to my Granite Gear's ability to block rain because I have not yet had the pleasure to backpack with it in pouring rain, but knowing Granite Gear I trust that it will exceed my expectations.

if you're wondering what size backpack cover to get, I highly recommend this one. It fit both my small bag and my over-sized bag.Great product!
