Honestly, the quality of this item is not good and or what I expected... It almost looks like it was used or not really made by the company?? The bottom of the pot had a defect rough spot not smooth and I worry about it scratching counter top etc... and the lip of the lid much rougher than I expected same with handles... It reminds me of something meant to go camping in the woods with rather than being in a kitchen... One positive it was delivered a few days earlier that origionally stated..

Rather large and cumbersome but it does the job I suppose it was meant to do. I really have no complaints.

This pot Granite Ware is a production reject and does not fit into any quality rating or classification. The enamel is so porous that it would never be possible to keep this pot clean, which would pose a threat to the user's health. The handles, pot rim and lid are so uneven and sharp that they hurt your fingers. The pot handles are very shallow. My index finger got stuck and I couldn't get it out easily, and the handle being too high pressed my finger against the sharp rim of the pot and hurt me while I was trying to free my finger. (The glove size for me is "M" or "8" which is the average women's hand and fingers). The pot has a profiled bottom and is not suitable for use on any stove other than gas!It is very light (635g) for such a large enameled pot. For comparison, I have a good quality enamel pot at home with a capacity of 1.5L and it weighs 500g.The capacity declared by the manufacturer of Granite Ware is 7 liters, but this is not true because in fact its capacity up to the rim is only 4.2 liters. The tape that was used to stick all parts of the pot together (3 items) is difficult to remove and comes off along with the enamel.

In approximately 1970, I purchased a set of enamelware like this. It had a couple of additional inserts that fit just fine in this pot, so that's great. There's nothing like enamelware. It may not be fancy, it may not be stoneware or cast iron or any of that stuff, but it is excellent value for the money. The one I purchased in 1970 was finally developing a few small rust spots in the bottom of the pot, so it seemed best to replace it. The inserts that came with my original one are still in perfect condition, despite considerable use. Somehow I think 52 years was pretty good value for the money! This has a steamer insert that enables you to cook stock, pull out the steamer insert and drain leaving the bones, skin, and veg in the strainer. You'll still need to strain the broth though, this isn't a mesh strainer, it's basically a colander. Works great for pasta too. It also makes great layered dinners, like potatoes and carrots on the bottom of the insert, then cabbage then shrimp on top, etc. The other advantage is that, while it's sturdy, it doesn't weigh a ton. So once I put a four or five pound chicken and a bunch of vegetables in it, I can still pick it up to put it in and out of the oven safely. Do note however that this is not a huge stockpot. I cook for one (with leftovers of course😋), sometimes two and this is perfect for that. It cleans up nicely too. I look forward to another 52 years cooking in enamelware. Okay, maybe not 52 years, but hopefully a long time!
