I got this for my 10 year old son. He loved opening a new one every day and seeing what he got. The make your own crystals were so cool. We all enjoyed watching it grow every day. We’ve tried that experiment on our own and were never successful. Having it actually work was great!

I ordered this to do with my nephew in December. He's super into crystals and science, so it seemed like a fun, active gift, and fairly basic for a countdown.It seems simple enough. The packaging leaves something to be desired. It was shipped in the original packaging, with a big label with my name and address on the front of the shrink wrap. So either I have to leave that on, or unwrap that part to wrap the gift for my nephew, so I did the latter. We'll see how it goes over - as it rattles a ton, and while I don't think any parts will fall out, I'd feel a lot better if it were sealed.

Granddaughter loves it, beats all the sugar of traditional corn syrup laden "chocolate" calendars.And she is enjoying "collecting" her own set of "gems".

So far we love it. I like that you're able to see all the rocks you can get. Haven't tried the crystal makers yet.

But that's about it. The stones are polished and substantial in size. The crystal growing things are questionable. Followed the directions and nothing. You do get a little history of each stone, which is interesting. Packing could be more sturdy. Inside container was completely crushed. No big deal. Interesting advent activity.
