Cute but not enough material to finish the project.

This is a very cute kit. I love the subject matter (we do a gaming-themed Christmas tree every year, so I thought these would be cute to have around at Christmas time to match the tree, or even make ornaments out of them). Even though I do a lot of sewing and needlework, I had never done punch needling, so I didn't have the first clue how to do it. The instructions that come with this kit are incomprehensible at best. Thankfully there are tons of videos and tutorials online, so I was able to turn to those for instructions. Even so, there were some things that were still unclear. The kit comes with some standard embroidery floss and an embroidery needle. What is this for? I have no idea. None of the tutorials I found for punch needle coasters utilize embroidery floss. Are you supposed to sew the backing on (even though it comes with double-sided tape sheets)? If you're like me and this is your first punch needle kit, you might get a little frustrated with the lack of instructions. Still, it's a very cute kit and is fun once you finally figure out how you're supposed to do it.

This fun kit comes with everything you need to do the needle punching artwork. It has patterns, colored yarn, needle punch tools, felt pads, embroidery hoop, double sided adhesive, and instructions. This makes a great gift for people who like to make things, and would be a fun project on a vacation or long trip. It all fits in a box about 9x9x2.5" so it's easy to bring along in a bag.

I love Mario and fiber art, so this punch needle kit was kind of a no-brainer for me. You get pretty much everything you need to make six punch needle coasters, including yarn, an embroidery hoop, preprinted stencils, self adhesive backing, the needle, and a little tool to thread the needle. I say pretty much everything, because I found myself running out of white yarn on my mushroom. I don’t know if maybe my stitches were too big, but it wasn’t a big deal for me because I crochet, so I have tons of yarn lying around the house. The kit also includes directions, but they were a little unclear. I found looking at YouTube videos to be a bit more helpful in terms of getting the technique down. Once I got the hang of the technique I found needle punching to be pretty easy. The hardest part was probably cutting the backing- definitely use sharp scissors! The finished product looks awesome, though. I might flip which side I put the backing on because I think it would look cooler with a bigger pile of loops, like a little carpet.Overall, I’d give this kit 4.5 stars- it’s almost perfect except for the fact that I didn’t get enough yarn and the directions were a little tricky to understand.
