This is not an old standard mattock handle. Not sure what it is for because it is square.

Product is deceiving head should be bigger and oval shaped not square. Did not want to go to the hassle trying to send it back so disappointed

Could not find a replacement handle locally so Amazon came to the rescue. Worked great, grain was straight and has held up all summer with no signs of wear.

Works perfect for my tool. I looks in all the stores and could not find the square head. So happy that Amazon has it available. Wood seems very sturdy and priced well too. Very happy with purchase.

Have a V&B Mfg Co 2# (HMPL 851-31) mattock that my wife likes. The handle broke and this filled the bill. If you have to replace the handle on one, cut off the old handle near the head (just so it fits into the oven), heat the head in an oven at maybe 200-300 for 20-30 minutes and using an oven mitt, remove the old handle and slide the new one on and seat it by banging the handle onto a sidewalk or something similar. Allow head to cool.

Well, it is a fairly solid handle with the square head, but it isn't as large (diameter) as I had hoped. Still for ten buck, you can't beat it. It has held up well so far (garden use).
