This Hall Crystal Flute is handcrafted in Washington State, USA by flute maker James Hall. Starting with precision Pyrex glass tubing, it is sealed and carefully shaped to create a Boehm taper producing beautiful and accurate tones throughout its tonal range. After shaping and tuning the tone holes, the flute is decorated and kiln fired to fuse the decorations and insure durability. Each flute is a handcrafted work of glass art. This flute will arrive nestled in a classy foam lined dark-green storage box with gold stamped logo, along with a complete fingering chart. Free sheet music is avalible on the Hall Crystal Flute website.

The Hall crystal flute is a folk or historical instrument and plays differently than a modern concert flute. The mouth hole has a raised edge and no lip plate. If you play the silver flute, this will take some time to get used to. The biggest difference is that you will need to place the flute higher on the lip and use a slightly tighter embouchure. Of course you can play any style of music you wish. Being a 6-holed flute it is well-suited for playing Celtic music and traditional tunes. It is also similar in design to the renaissance or baroque flute so is excellent for this as well.

12204 Inline D Flute - Green Ivy

The D flute is our largest flute, produces deep and beautiful mellow tones. This flute is highly recommended for the adult professional and novice players alike. The larger embouchure hole requires less air. The D flute’s tone is deeper and mellower than our smaller flutes. The finger stretch for this flute may be difficult for players with small hands.

I bought this for my mother on her birthday because she's been a flute player for many years she absolutely loves it she has to get used to it because there's a different way to play it but she's been practicing with it and it's been amazing

I was Director of the USMC Marine Band. I had a glass flute for years that was broken recently. This was it's replacement and I am very happy with the quality of this Flute.

Wonderful flute!! Came in a box I still use, nicely wrapped. Also, the tone and sound is what I expected. is takes a different strength to play and fingering, but not too far off from your traditional c flute. It a wonderful flute and fun to play.

I bought a one in the key of G and liked that one, so bought this on to compliment my collection. It is significantly larger than the G, so you have to have good sized hands time play this D. If you decide to buy one, be patient when first trying to play notes for the first time. You have to learn placement and air flow control, and consistency with these.

It's not very helpful for Amazon to sell these flutes but not the swabs that go with them. The Hall flutes are great but they collect water quickly (being non-absorbent) and it's difficult to improvise a swab because they are one-piece and thus quite long for their diameter. It defeats the purpose of ordering via Amazon if you have to go back to the Halls site to get the swab.

when i bought this flute, i had only experience with wooden hole flutes and key flutes. I knew this'd be a much different type to play, but i never knew how comfortable it'd be, more so than most of my other flutes. it's so light, and once you really adjust your emboucher to it, it's like it's part of you, an extention of your hand sort of. lol. it is a bit hard at first though to go from key flutes to hole flutes, but that wouldn't be different with another type of hole flute. another thing to note about the D flute is that it is the biggest, and you have to stretch your fingers outquite a bit, so if you are not used to that it will take getting used to. once u get past all that, it is an amazing flute. i would very very definitely recommend it. :D
