Not sure what to do... Thinking I will give it a shot but this motor was used/tested?. All the wires in the wiring box were twisted, some strands were broken etc. The snap ring used to hold the electric box on the motor housing is rusted. There is no product paperwork, no wiring diagram or bill of sale in the box. The motor was packed in a plastic bag inside a well formed/molded styrofoam padding and put in a well made cardboard box. The bag was not closed/sealed and had worked itself off the motor part way. Small pieces of styrofoam had chipped off the padding and fallen into the motor housing where I spent an hour picking out the pieces I could find. Where has the motor been, what was it used for and for how long? I didn't order a used motor. After posting the review earlier this am, I called the manufacturer and they helped me understand the motor may not have been used. They test a small percentage of their motors (made in China). If you get a test motor the wires will be twisted up. He mentioned that the tell tale sign on the use of a motor is whether the shaft or key has been marred by tightening set screws. Additional point is that the manufacturer is receiving the review, not Amazon or a third party vendor. In my instance perhaps the only valid complaint is that the packaging was poorly done by the manufacturer or vendor allowing the styrofoam inside the motor housing. I expressed to the manufacturer that they should put a slip of paper in the box with the motor that has their name, motor description, show wiring (which is on the motor plate) and as I think about it, they should identify "if the motor has been bench tested for quality control, you will find some twisting of wires and possibly some broken strands in the wiring box."Went to wire up the motor permanently yesterday and realized the wiring box has an opening larger than a traditional 3/8" box connector clamp so I bought a 3/4" (Lowes didn't have a 1/2") and that one is too big. Now back to HD I suppose. Recommendation to manufacturer is to include the wire connector clamp (its not a traditional size). OK Folks, NM Round Connector, 1/2" Size are not carried by HD or Lowes so I am planning to put a heavy zip tie on the wire bundle inside the box and outside the box and leave a tit end of plastic on both so wires can't be pulled thru or pushed in the wiring box.

Unfortunately I could not use the motor due to unforseen difference in the shaft, it was our machine. Not the motor. Unit looked very well made, packaged great and arrived quickly. Seller was absolutely great about return and wish we could have used it. Looked so much better than the expensive original motor. Thanks for the GREAT SERVICE!!!

Nice motor for repowering an Atlas 12" wood lathe. The capacitor start helps generate the torque needed to overcome the inertia of the lathe chuck. The motor is enclosed, so wood chips and dust won't get into the windings. There are some vent slots for cooling, but they are on the underside. I just got it set up yesterday and ran it for the first time, with a 2 inch pulley and a link belt. Seems to have plenty of power for the lathe. So far, so good.
