As a broadcaster of 40+ years, I've had experience with differing wireless mic systems over that period, from the early VHF mics to high-end systems costing $1k or more. I needed a budget system for myself for a recording gig coming up in December, and I was holding out high hopes for this system based on the decent reviews. If you're a pro, you'll dislike this system, if you're a KJ or party person, you'll probably get along with this setup fine. Here's what you need to know:The mics will not pick up ambient sound, they are heavily squelched at the receiver, there is no way to adjust this from the front panel of the receiver. Sound will not be produced off-axis to the mic. This is NOT because they are cardioid mics, even cardioid mics have some off-axis pickup, these mics are dead silent, which tells me there is squelching at the receiver that is too aggressive. The system has at least a noise floor of -60 dB per channel and that is with the mic only a few feet from the receiver, cumulatively with all four mics in a mix, they will be very hissy sounding. One mic channel alone makes enough hiss to disqualify it for any pro recording. The channels, volume and front panel is pretty intuitive, you'll figure it out if you have any experience at all with other wireless mics. The manual is poorly translated with lots of spelling and grammar errors, it's easier to just poke around around and figure it out on your own. It's not too terribly complicated when all is said and done. I couldn't get the auto-channel finder to work, but the mics were already on channel when I took them out of the box, so there wasn't a need to change them, I just wanted to see if the IR tuning method actually worked. That part I couldn't figure out. However, the front panel controls are easy enough to manually change the channel if you wanted to. I'm not sure how you're supposed to correspondingly change the channel of the mic body, either. The antennas fasten on with some very rough BNC connectors, mine had one that turned on the chassis some when I untwisted it to remove the antenna, indicating the jack isn't tightened down properly. If I was keeping this set, I'd take it apart and tighten all the BNC connectors and put locktite on them. The BNC connections are not smooth like other systems I've had from other well-known wireless mic makers.I like that it has complete frequency readout on both the transmitter and receiver and that there is a battery level indicator on both as well. The display is not as bright blue as shown in the pictures, it's actually a pleasant pale blue and would work well in a darkened room setting without being blinding. Could be a problem showing up in bright sunlight, however.I mentioned the audio is squelched prematurely, this means it only really works when you're right up on the mic. The mic sound quality is a bit brash and thin, not much low end, so you'd have to use your board's EQ settings to warm up the sound. They default to coming on at volume 18, 19 is maximum and the mics will easily distort at that level, so just leave it at 18, or lower. The audio level meter on the front panel is next to the RF level meter, it's easy to confuse the two. Also, the audio level meters don't always show level and when they do, they never show full scale when you're right up on the mic talking, so they are inaccurate at best and can't be relied on. I checked audio level on my Mackie board and while it shows normal iterations in the full range on its meter, the wireless receiver barely registers or registers nothing during quieter passages, but it does show up on my board, however. The sound will mute if you are slightly off axis to the mic and it won't pick up any room ambience whatsoever, even when the squelch is un-gated, it's seems the mics are choked off and aren't open at all. I like that the unit shows the RF level of the transmitter being received, most wireless systems have this, but it's nice to see it on a budget system.Overall, a poor pick for a pro user, but would probably be suited best for parties or karaoke. You won't be in huge danger of getting a lot of monitor feedback because of the severe squelching. The singer or speaker could stand pretty close to a stage monitor without getting a whole bunch of squealing with this mic set. It's just not suited, though, for what I wanted from it, so it looks like I'm going to have to keep looking.

I got these to replace the wired mics that I use for karaoke parties and small gatherings. I really like them. I had no experience setting up wireless mics and I hate to read directions, but setting these up was a simple process. The audio quality is excellent. There's no crackling or cutting in and out. Although I haven't used these extensively, I really like that the mics have a battery indicator. So far the battery life seems good. Overall, I'm happy with this microphone system. For those of you keeping score, here's the breakdown:Battery Life- AAudio Quality- AEffectiveness- AValue- BOverall Grade: A
