Used to engrave truck serial number on catalytic converter. Worked well. There is an extra set screw included but it is a spare. There is already a set screw installed but it is tiny and hard to see. I kept trying to install the spare and it would not fit because there was already a set screw installed. Back out the already installed set screw a little bit and the engraving tip drops easily into place. Works well for marking your property.

For those who don't know what I mean, a set screw is a screw that is used to secure an object, in this case the pointy stylus, into the engraver. I have received two of these engravers, the first one the screw kept falling out, the second, the screw doesn't hold the stylus even when tightened all the way. Junk! Back it goes!!

Exactly what I needed. We manage our own rental property and purchased several a/c window units to loan out to tenants and one of them kept one claiming it as theirs so lesson learned. Use this to label and mark with our name and it works perfectly

This engraver is loud. I know other reviews say this too, but I cannot stress it enough. There is good reason they include a pair of ear plugs with this product! It works well if you're engraving with the grain of wood, but it does tend to jump a bit if you try to engrave against the grain of the wood (over the natural lines). I have not tried it on metal yet, but it is functional on wood. I had to return the first one I received because the mechanism to open and close it was jammed. The replacement one works fine. My kids wanted it for craft projects, but this is going to have to be an outside-only tool due to the volume. It comes with a warning to only use it for a few minutes at a time. I'm not sure if this is for engine heat issues or so you don't end up losing your hearing. I can't imagine wanting to keep it on for more than just scratching a name or number into a project due to the sound.
