When the product worked, I was happy enough with the functions. I was interested most in determining depth and water temperature. I used the product with the mounting kit on my kayak and mostly in salt water. No matter how hard you try there’s gonna be some exposure to water, salt or otherwise. After using the product 6 to 10 times in salt water, I noticed some rust forming in the compartment where the batteries are installed and around the screws used to tighten the battery compartment. Currently I have fresh batteries in the unit and it will not turn on. I cannot recommend this product because it does not seem to be durable enough to be used on a kayak in salt water. Their customer service is nonexistent. If you call them, you get a boiler plate response. I don’t know what it takes to talk to a human in this company. Bottom line….. totally cannot recommend this product.

I am still learning how to use the locator. Sure it will work out for me. Like the versatility.

This fish finder does everything I need it to do and more. It's very user friendly and had it set up in no time. Works well and with the 2 year no fault warranty you can't go wrong with this unit. I contacted Hawk Eye before purchasing this unit to make sure it would do what I needed it to do pared with my underwater camera and the service was excellent with the suggestion that this unit would be perfect for my needs and they were right on. I would definitely recommend this to anyone for ice fishing or with a small boat.

Bought this as a gift, however, was kind of selfish as it's for my significant other:) We rented a boat this year and wanted to find a fish finder that we wouldn't have to mount. One that would be useful offshore if we hit a bank here or there. We have yet to fish with it off bank but due to the design don't believe that will be an issue. It is extremely accurate as I also use it to dive into water, so I'm dependent upon it's accuracy. That's huge trust! Easy to throw into the boat bag with the case (bought separately). Also bought separately the suction cup holder which is extremely useful and also fits in the box purchased. Have not had a problem reading or seeing the screen. The transponder is easy to just throw over and does as described by giving the full view. This product rivals extremely expensive mounted fish finders I've used in the past. Would absolutely recommend.

This is the second Hawkeye fish finder I purchased. The first was a very basic entry level device that did its job, but this one is AMAZING!!! It's worth the extra money for all the bells and whistles. Looking back, I should have purchase this a long time ago.

I was really holding off on reviewing this unit until I had an appropriate amount of time to test it and dial it in a little. I was mostly interested in this for the ice fishing flasher feature, but needed a finder for my 14' v-hull as well. Figures I'd try to kill two birds with one stone.Straight from the box with factory settings, depth and water temperature showed accurately. (Which is kinda half the battle with these cheaper fish finders) Menus are very easily navigated and settings easily changed. I have no doubt the regular fish finder feature will work great on my boat this coming spring/summer/fall. I've already ordered the 12v adapter kit and high speed transducer direct from Hawkeye's website. Hurrah! When I first went to use the flasher, what an awful experience. I spent a full day out on the water wracking my brains trying to figure out what exactly I was looking at. I couldn't determine fish from bait from ground level, nothing. I also couldn't see my jig at any depths, including when it was directly beneath my transducer. I was so disappointed but not ready to give up on it.With a couple days of tinkering and a lot of online research, I finally have the units flasher set up exactly how I need it and I'm very pleased with how well it works. Can easily locate my jig and see when the fish move to it. Battery life is a little low, (but what do you expect on 4 AAA batteries?) but aides greatly in the portability of the unit. I've found one set of standard Energizer batteries will get you about 10-12 hours in colder weather. Will have to get some of the Lithium batteries the manufacturer recommends to try out and compare.Shout-out to the customer support staff at Hawkeye as well. They are very helpful and quick to respond to any questions you may have. It's truly a shame more companies do not operate as efficiently as they do.Overall, I'm super happy with the FishTrax C1 fish finder. It is incredibly versatile, easy to read, portable, and very cost effective. 4/5 stars just for battery life, it took sooo long to dial in, and it REALLY doesn't like water under 3-3.5 feet.

I was so impressed with the construction, display, and settings options when this arrived that I ordered a second one for my boy.The screws that hold the battery compartment are captured so you don't have to worry about losing them when you're changing batteries out on the water, and the base mount is a threaded metal insert that lets you secure the mount snugly and not have to worry about stripping threads. The display is as good as any moderately priced hard-wired unit, and it has all of the same settings options.I simply used a stainless 1/4"-20 bolt to mount mine to a spring clamp and clamped that on the cross bar in front of me on my float tube. I removed the float from the transducer and simply hung the transducer into the water on the side of the float tube. ...Worked great.I just took a trip to my favorite bass pond to try it out and scout out the bottom structure of my favorite spots. It's too early here to have much hope of catching bass but I took my fly rod to drag a woolly-bugger around while I scouted - thinking perhaps some of last years hatchery trout plants might take a stab at it. ...Sure enough - I hooked into a big holdover in 10' of water, and with this fish-finder I was able to stay in that depth and catch my limit. In fact at one point several fish showed up below me and a few moments later when my fly went through that spot WHAM! - I gout the biggest one of the day. ...What started out as a scouting trip turned into one of those days that keep you hooked on fishing, and it wouldn't have went that way if I couldn't stay in 10' using this fish-finder.What more could you want?
