I bought it because of the low price. I have been using it to connect my laptop to a secondary screen when I work at home (I am a graduate student). In January, the screen started to act out, turning black for one or two seconds and then back to normal. Eventually it became so frequent that I could not withstand it any longer. I found that the problem was not the screen, nor the VGA cable. It also wasn't my HDMI port because windows never made the sound it does when you disconnect something. I realized that something was loose in the adapter. I literally tape both the adapter and the VGA cable to the desk to prevent any movement, and the screen blinking completely stopped. Neither flipping the ends of the VGA cable, or using a different one, solved the problem. I think the cheap fabrication is the cause. I am tempted to break it open and check if I can use a tin solder to try to fix it myself.One way or another I do NOT recommend this product. My roommate has a different one, of a renowned brand. She has had it for almost two years and it does not malfunctions even-though we both connect and disconnect our laptops on a daily basis.

Bought this for a Mac Mini, but it didn't work. No display. Worked on my PC.Bought another that had an input for an external power and that one worked. Apparently the Mac doesn't provide enough power through the HDMI port. Not a problem with the adapter.

I have an old projector with a cable with a VGA plug to connect to the computer. My newest computers don't have VGA output, only HDMI. So the adapter with a VGA output and an HDMI input is what is needed - the HDMI plug goes to the computer and the cable from the projector plugs into the VGA output on the adapter. No switch on the adapter, no power needed for the adapter it just works. It's made to accept the screws on the VGA plug so the the connection can be secure and tight. All is fine and has worked for several hours by now and I see no reason why it will not work when I need it again.

This product works! My computer recognized the adapter, and my secondary screen pulled up perfectly. One small thing to note, since you're converting the signal to HDMI, after plugging in this adapter you may need to manually switch the audio controls on your computer back to the speaker.
