just won't heat up my stove, not observing peak heating or as good a heat as with old 20 year old cat, not sure why, I burned half a cord of wood and just did not get the high heat performance I been used to, I did take a few years off and my stove sat cold, I got way out of pratice, but new cat just won't super heat and I don't think anything else is wrong. From feedback I'm not the only one that encountered problems but some people are getting the super heat up they are used to so I guess there is a defect rate.

It doesn't do anywhere near what my old catalytic converter did. Doesn't heat up as it should.

Installed the combustor this evening. It fit well in our Vermont Castings Dutchwest Federal stove. The diameter is a tad under 6". That's perfect. A full 6" combustor is too large. Flipped the damper a bit early at 400°, and the combustor is now burning at 1600°. If it gets hotter, I'll have to open the damper to bring the temp down. Amazing value compared to the brands we've used previously.

It didn't quite fit my pseudo-homemade rig so I needed to get some high temp insulation to tighten the fit but now it works so much better than the rotten one that had to be removed.

I've been burning wood since the seventies, this stove since 1986. The stove has burned at around 1000 to 1100 degrees for as long as I've owned it and I've replaced the catalytic converter numerous times. I bought this converter and can barely get it to 850 degrees. Disappointing.

I have had a Consolidated Dutchwest 264 stove since 1987, and have used and replaced ceramic combustors before but needed to replace the last one that had quit working. Since these were so inexpensive, I ordered two. I also bought a new thermometer to place above the combustor. After installing this item and firing the stove to proper temps, and diverting the flue gasses through the new combustor the temperature would not climb above 575 degrees. It should climb to 700-1000 degrees. My stove can reach that without a catalytic converter. I tried damper control, combustor feed air, and was burning seasoned white oak, but no increase in temperature. This means that this "ceramic honeycomb" has little or no catalytic metals imbedded in it. I now am sending them back and placing an order for a real combustor. This is what you get for trying to go cheap. Steer clear of these as they are totally ineffective.

I was skeptical but all is well and the combustor is doing what it's supposed to do. Unit seems well constructed and arrived quickly.
