This makes such a difference in dispersing the heat! Without it, you have to be sitting almost right on top of the fire pit to feel the warmth. With it, you can sit back in your chair and still feel warm. Most of the time here in South Texas, we don’t need the heat…but we absolutely needed it during our recent snow days, and it worked like a charm!

It deflects the heat a bit. I wish they made the diameter a little larger but it's ok. Be great I'd they made them for the 8.5/9" firepits too. I'd be all over that!

Fits my Solo Messa stove perfectly, very easy to install, handy little travel bag, very sturdy, and does a wonderful job deflecting heat downward. I am very pleased with this product.

I don't know how the name brand unit works, but it seems there is room for improvement on this one. It goes together easily enough and has a nice nylon bag to store the pieces in. However it doesn't "snap" together, so when it comes time to remove it from the fire pit, it may or may not come off in one peice. If you grab the top (with a glove, it will be hot!) it sometimes lifts off by itself, or it will lift the vertical arm with it (leaving the lower ring) or it might lift the whole thing and then fall apart while moving it out of the way. And the whole thing will be hot so be careful!Would have been nice to have the prices snap together or be all one peice with hinges so it folds down flat for storage.That bring said, it does work to throw some of the heat from my mesa XL out to the sides. It won't warm you much, but better than the non existent heat the stove puts to the sides when running. The flame will come up and through the holes on this unit, so it will be quickly covered in a layer of soot, so again wear gloves even when it's cooled off. I like the single support arm as it allows more clear access to the flame if you are roasting marshmallows or just need more hands to get close to the fire.I tested this when it was 25 degrees out and I imagine it works better when it's warmer since the temp difference is less for you to feel hot, if that makes any sense.I plan on bringing it camping this summer, nice to be able to watch a fire and make s'mores without the hassle of building a wood burning fire (I use food safe BBQ pellets in my mesa xl).

This heat deflector works perfectly for any mini fire pit that has a clearance for a 5 inch ring on top, and was tested on an off-brand (was not tested with the Solo Stove Mesa). The bottom ring for this deflector sits directly on top and is stable. This one has only one vertical bar so that additional wood can be added more easily, but it is still easier to load wood prior to putting this heat deflector on top. It comes in three pieces with the bottom ring, the vertical bar, and the top heat shield. It is also very easy to put together and just as easy to take apart.Note that there are a few spot welds (pictured) on each side of the vertical bar for both the ring and the top deflector and that they are just ok quality. Fully continuous welds would have been preferred, so hopefully these hold up to repeated thermal cycles.During use, this heat deflector moved heat out horizontally a couple feet further than without it. So, it does work well. Additionally, the heat deflector got quite hot from the flames and caution should be used if removing it prior to cooling.

This deflector is super sturdy, provides a lot of space, and makes it really easy to add fuel. It's also perfect for two people to roast marshmallows at the same time. I absolutely love it!
