I'm towing a 4850 lb loaded travel trailer with my 2018 Tacoma TRD Manual Trans pickup. I use a WDH but noticed an improved feeling of stability once I installed these helper springs. I'm pushing total combined weight and GVW pretty close to the max recomended but everytjing feels very stable and I've had zero issues. The springs have not hit my frame like some other reviews showed, and as I said this poor little truck is loaded..... Make sure to follow the directions amd put the long end of the helper spring in the right place ...I'm guessing if you dont the spring may touch your frame. Very happy with these, my ride without a load seemed unchanged ... this truck rides rough anyway but these springs did not hurt the ride quality. I have the Magnuson S/C on my truck and noticed significantly less axel wrap when taking off, makes the truck feel more responsvive.

I have a rooftop tent and really load up my Tacoma on camping trips. This device helped a bit but really did not help in the long run. I used for one year and ended up getting a new set of leaf springs.

Helwig makes GREAT products, only giving 4 stars because when I called Helwig to find out if the 550 springs would work on my Tacoma they said 'yes'. I told them that a review on Amazon said they did NOT fit, they said that is incorrect. Well I bought the 550, they did NOT fit. Bought the 980 and they are great, love the improved ride and stance.

Install both the Drivers and Passengers forward clamp identically for balanced spring response and support (i.e. turn the U-Bolt)..

This did the trick, and these will fit a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad 4x4, I have a rack and a Kobalt truck box with tools and a removeable 12K winch inside, I'm guessing 300lbs of weight in back, when I'd hit a dip in the road the truck would bottom out on the bump stops, and when I would pull my trailer it would squat, more than I'd like, so I needed a littler helper and these fit the bill, the only deal is you will have to turn the adjustable end of the shackles different than what the instructions say to so the shackle will set in the saddle of the spring better, I notified Hellwig and they said this was an acceptable way to mount, the instructions say to mount the end shackles with the curved end facing the front but because of a large rivet that holds the truck springs together it will not mount straight so I just flipped it to the other side on both driver and passenger side, and they both set well in the saddle portion of the helper spring now. see before and after pictures

This Add-a-Leaf (AOL) kit is the perfect answer for border-line suspension concerns you might have when considering load carrying, towing, or just plain "attitude" of a new vehicle. But this would also do wonders for an older vehicle suffering from a bit of sag, or anticipating heavier duty requirements ahead. My application was on a 2017 TRD Sport 4x4 Tacoma. I wanted to pull my utility trailer, boat trailer, or haul medium duty loads without any compromise to the OEM ride or handling characteristics. That is exactly what I got when I installed this kit, and about a 2" lift in the rear as well. The before and after performance was impressive to me, because the kit made the truck handle, respond, corner, and stop the same as if no loads were present. Whereas before, some sagging in the rear and trailer sway were possible under certain conditions. Now let me say that I don't drive or test the vehicle for loading or towing that exceeds the OEM ratings. But I am very confident that the truck can EASILY perform all of my required duties up to AND including the maximums certified on the stickers.Installation was fairly basic. Working on one side of the vehicle, at a time - The two sets of OEM leaf spring stack U-bolts at the axle tube have to be removed, just to insert the "helper leaf" on top of the stack - sliding it under the bump stops, then re-tightening everything to proper torque - just as before. Then a U-bolt and its retaining bar and hardware are added on each end of the helper leaf, on both sides of the vehicle, tightening them down - and even adjusting the ride height if you desire to do so when completed. The nuts require a 17mm wrench or socket tool for their adjustment and Hellwig provides double-nuts for the rears, just to prevent your adjustment from loosening up during the months ahead. A special "bar" (for the U-bold retainer) is provided for the driver-side setup to provide added clearance, but was not an issue on my truck. But it was made to satisfy either application, (painted black for its identification as being "different").My kit required some contact with Hellwig customer service. The reasons were so minor, I am not going to write them here. But I mention it only to convey the superb service they provide there. I had them sent me some extra hardware - and they did so TWICE, at no charge, and rather quickly via UPS. They were fast to respond and asked no questions. This experience was as good as it gets considering the product, company, and service all seem to be of the highest standards. I recommend them for those reasons.
