Herm Sprenger, one of the leading manufacturers of metal products for equestrian, dog sport, and boat fittings for over 140 years. Known for high quality innovation, Sprenger is a family-run company in Iserlohn, Germany. Size Note: Herm Sprenger collars are made in metric measurements, then converted to rounded-up inches for the U.S. market. Sizing, Fit, Tips: Measure dog’s neck and add 3 inches. This will be your “initial” collar size from which you can adjust the collar by removing or adding links to achieve a comfortable, snug training fit. Training Collars: Training collars are intended for supervised training sessions when the handler is communicating a desired behavior. All users of training devices should be informed and understand how to use training devices. Do not leave a dog unsupervised or alone in a training device and do not leave training devices on a dog full time. Do not use retractable leash devices or elastic tension leads with a training collar. Do not use training collars on dogs younger than 6 months. Keep Your Collar Balanced: When adding and removing prong links, remember to keep the same number of prong links affixed on each side of the center plate. If the collar fitting requires an odd number of prong links, then make sure one side of the center plate has only one more prong link than the other side. Your goal is to ensure the center plate stays at the front of the dog's neck above the trachea. How To Choose Prong Links: Prong Links can be purchased separately in multi-packs. When ordering, ensure you are ordering the correct millimeter sized prong link in the same metal composition as your collar. This will maintain a consistent tensile strength throughout the collar, ensuring proper training communication and collar longevity. Cleaning: Before use, wash metal collars in warm, mild soapy water to minimize fur discoloration.

Don't waste your money on the cheap pet store versions, get the best! This German steel prong collar will last the life of the dog and beyond. This collar is a game changet if you have a dog that pulls when you are trying to walk them. I highly recommend.

This is so much better than the zinc quick release version I originally purchased. It is solid, doesn't slide around my dog's neck, and doesn't irritate her skin. Most of the lower star reviews are from people who are not familiar with prong collars and/or Herm Sprenger. Please consult with a trainer or at least watch lots of you tube videos to explain how these work! Properly measure the top portion of your dog's neck and add 2-3" to buy the correct size. You must add or remove links to make it fit, and it must fit correctly! You will have to pinch one of the thick links in order to put on and remove the collar, it's not particularly easy. If you think the smallest 2.25MM will be easier for you to handle but is not long enough, simply buy extra prongs.

Hate how hard it is to attach it’s very hard to put on the dog collars. Sometimes it almost takes me 30 mins just to snap on definitely would be easier if it had a clip on attachment instead..

I bought the right size for my Akita but it barely fit and was extremely difficult to take on or off. Bought 2 extra links at pet store and used pliars to slightly compess one link. Marked it with nailpolish so can find it easily. Now collar is perfect . Always wear and secure second collar to leash because sometimes prong collars can come open. If you don't have very strong fingers, consider quick release. Quality is excellent and my Akita( adopted from a rescue and very animal aggressive) is easy to walk and responsive to me when using this collar. Without it, he is difficult to control and lunges and jumps at other dogs. Always wear high on neck behind ears and use 2nd collar to make sure your dog never gets loose on the street. Best quality prong collar I have had

I purchased a knock-off prong collar from a pet store only to have my 6 month 50lb Rottie/shepard pup snap it. This one has had no issues at 80 lbs. I bought extra lengths to grow with the dog.

we got a strong shelter pup and needed a prong collar to be able to walk him without pulling a muscle. we had a zinc one first which worked but started irritating his neck. we got this and he doesn't itch anymore or have irritated skin. he is much happier and while the prong collar keeps him from pulling, he is not in pain and is very adventurous

If you have time to take your dog out a lot with this collar on, it does help teach the dog the do's and don'ts of public behavior. My dog went from a puller during walker to walking loose leash right beside me AND at my speed and direction. It even helped deter unwanted sniffing and lunging.
