Here are some of the downsides that I have noticed:- If you are looking for a fair budget vise with a firm grip, I guess it's fine but you will need to be carefull each time you are putting tension on the Allen screw so not to break the essential ratnut which hold the subject being machined. The ratnut on mine broke at first use and I haven't put excessive torque on the screw.- The long lateral sides aren't perpendicular to the 2" fixed vise wall. I measured 0.005" difference on two vise samples. So one cannot use these sides as a refernce for squareness.- The whole horizontal dual bed surfaces (where the paralells sit) aren't flat, they wave. I measured ±0.0015" on one and the other had ±0.002" while measuring the difference (peak and valley) on the entire surface. So we are far from 0.0002" of their tolerance. This means that you cannot rely on your parallels, you will need ro re-validate the squareness on their bed surface.I'd rather call this a "precision style" vise, unreliable because it can break at anythime and it will have you loose some setup time trying to reach for squareness.

Do not buy this product, the bolt underneath the vise which tightens the vise broke on first use. Once broken the unit is useless. Buyer beware.

Pretty sure I know what setup they have at a factory. One guy who is pretty good at his job doing first pass operations, and one guy who showed up drunk doing second pass.First off, these are not made to dimension, so if you order a pair, and then want to use them to fixture a piece at two points, you will need to do at least some grinding or a hell of a lot of tweaking with an indicator. The jaw bed is flat, dimensionally consistent, and seems fine, so B+ there. Mics to .7988 +/- .0002 across 8 points on two vises. The major flat of the fixed jaw is okay, but not consistent between vises. Mics to .7401 on both ends for one, .7328/.7325 on two ends for the other. So pretty square, but 8 thou mismatch in dimension between the two vises, so you better have a pretty good hone ready. The minor flat on one fixed jaw is freaking terrible. One was out of square by .0008, The minor flat on the other was out of square to the rear surface by 4 THOU! Basically makes it borderline useless. And a couple thou mismatch there too. Can't be bothered to check squareness right now, but I'm, shall we say, not overflowing with confidence. They're kind of ok if you're prepared for a hassle, just know what you are getting into.

Hands down best vise for this price. Very precise and solid. Very ridged. Fits on mini mills perfectly (pictured on the Sherline 2010) it’s actually better than the factory sherline vise which is aluminum. The jaws open much wider than the sherline vise and are solid stainless steel. Already side tapped for a vise stop. I am really happy with this vise. It could easily be sold for $200 at this quality.

I like the product and I like the way Amazon does the return/warranty stuff...The part that holds the clevis is cast. It broke on me when I guess I overtightened. If this second one does the same, will make that part from cold rolled steel over the original cast part. If you are handy with this type of stuff no problem. Since most folks buying this have the knowledge to do that it should not be a problem. It holds well, no wiggle at all

This miniature precision Vice is exactly as shown on website. The surface finish is very good. All faces, sides and the jaws are flat, straight and square to the limit of my test equipment (0.01mm). There were no imperfections, dents or marks in the vice I received, and it is now my "go-to" vice for the very small parts I make for small scale scratch-build modelling. For me, this is very good value.

Oh my. For a relatively inexpensive item, this is just lovely quality. All the surfaces are within one tenth (0.0001") of perfectly flat and parallel across their entire length. For squareness, I can only comment that it's better than my current ability to measure (about a thou). There's barely one thou (0.001") of horizontal play on the moving jaw, but it slides very smoothly. When you close the jaws against each other, there's a few thou of horizontal misalignment on the sides, but I literally can't see, feel, or measure the seam on the top surface.
