This is my first moisture meter for Hay, so I can’t fully comment on the accuracy, but I did a couple “controlled” tests - see last paragraph. It has two 11” spikes on it that fairly easily plunge into a bale of hay. The spikes are not magnetic, leading me to believe they are stainless steel. I also like that it comes with a fabric carrying bag.It allows you to change between settings for Straw/General Cd00, Guinea grass/Clover Cd01, Soap wort Cd02, Wheat Straw Cd03 and a Cd04 that is undefined. There is also an “adjust”, Alarm 2 and Alarm 1 setting. All are accessed by holding the middle “Fun”ction button until the label shows up.My tests:I didn’t realize it at the time, but my unit arrived set to Guinea grass/Clover. I’ve since changed it to Straw/General, but my tests below were set as clover. I tested a small square bale of straw I’d had around since last year, and it read at 13%. For fun I tested some wood shavings we use for Dahlia storage and got 5%(prebundled from a pet store). Just for fun, I put it in some wet wood shavings and it read out at 40%. I tried putting it in water and crossing the terminals out with metal and I got 45%. I do get a red light over 18% and a yellow light above 13%. Below 13 there is a green light.
