5 Stars for the Hitachi NR90AES1 framing nail gun. I used Hitachi 20171s (21 degree) nails to build a picket fence and it maybe saved me 1.5 days in by not having to hand nail those pickets. At first I had some misfires due to user error; it would fire once then shoot a blank, before firing again. But I quickly realized I had the pressure too low. Then it started setting the nails too deep. I quickly resolved that by adjusting the depth. 70 PSI was the magic # on the regulator for installing pickets into 2 x 4's. For safety reasons, I kept it on single fire, not sequential fire. But it worked flawlessly once I zero'd it in. I highly recommend this. Con's: not rafter hook, but there no rafters to hang it on anyways when building my fence... didn't need it either.

We were in the middle of building a storage shed for our local food pantry when my previous nailer died. Did some research, this looked like a decent unit. Ordered, received quickly albeit a day later than indicated on order. Easy to load, easy to use. We've run 3 inch and 2 inch nails through it, works like a charm. Like most framing nailers, heavy device but lighter than it looks. One caution, it does spit out the plastic pieces that hold the strips together - wear eye protection. While I have had maybe 3-4 misfires (or non-fires) is the 2-3,000 nails through this so far, it is much more reliable than my older Bostitch. If you need a framer, this is the one to get.

For less than $200, you cannot beat this thing. I'm sure other, higher-priced guns offer other features, but for the home DIYer like myself who may use this gun for the occasional large project, this nailer is a beast. After deciding to tackle building an 8x12 shed on my own and learning a valuable lesson in arm fatigue after framing its walls by hand, I ordered this nail gun to tackle the rafter and roofing stages of the project. Looking back, I have no idea how I could have possibly gone without it. It's well worth the money just in the amount of time you save hammering nails. As for the gun itself, the gun is a little over seven pounds, so it's extremely light and you can easily work with it overhead all day. It's very easy to get into tighter spaces and the collar around the "muzzle" digs into the wood just enough to get a good toenail in while dangling from a roof in precarious positions. Once the air pressure was set to the appropriate level, I barely ever had to finish nails off with a hammer, and the nails that didn't go through correctly where 100 percent user error as I was getting used to using a framing nailer and not the fault of the gun.The gun is hardy and can take a beating. I also dropped it (several times) from the top of my ladder a good eight feet. It hit several rungs on the way down and emerged scuffed but no worse for wear. Apparently, the nail feeder is made of an easily fixable material, so even if you drop it until it breaks it won't completely kill the tool. Like other reviews said, a hanging hook would be nice.Info I wish I could have found while comparison shopping for nailers: I run a 150 max PSI Porter Cable C2002-WK 6-gallon air compressor. Set at 85 PSI, this gun would drive around 12 nails before the compressor would kick on to refill. This was a big concern of mine going in, so if you've got a similar-sized pancake style compressor this is entirely reasonable rate of fire and just right for a job like this. The product also specifies 21-degree nails, although I bought 22 degree and had no misfires or hiccups. The nail angle thing was confusing for a newbie.Love this gun. I look forward to the amount of time it will save on the next big project.

This is my first framing nailer. I have finish and brad nailers. I bought it for a garage construction project. I wavered between buying a low-cost nailer from Harbor Freight and something better. After reading reviews, I decided that it was worth the money for the Hitachi. the Nailer works very well in both single-fire and bump-fire modes. It is light weight, has good balance, a solid feel and, so far, it has not jammed once. The one negative is that it doesn't come with a molded case.

I bought this for a fence project that I have going on. I paid 179 at the time, and did months of research before I purchased this model. Besides not having a hanging hook like every one talks about, it's a decent light nail gun with many additional options at a good price point. I wanted to just buy a used one, but refused to give some one 125-150 for a nail gun that looked like it was dragged behind the work truck to and from a jobsite every day, and for another 30 bones have a brand new one w/ full 5 yr. warranty. I'm shooting 2 different sized nails through it, a hitachi 2" galv. ring shank and a grip rite 3" galv. ring shank. I checked here and every where for a 'cheaper' or 'better' alternative, but really could find one compared to the box store price on the galv. ring shanked nails, I'm sure if you are running framing nails then it may be a different story. I caught the 2" on sale so it made it even sweeter. I will say it does at times fire and not shoot a nail on the 2 inchers, which can be aggravating. Also I had the selector switch for the single/bump fire trigger act up. I used the gun to run about 20' of new fence a few months ago, then put the gun up until last week. When I pulled it back out it would not fire on single fire mode. I called hitachi (who were super nice to deal with), located an authorized dealer and took the gun in. Of course when I got there some how it worked fine and I looked like an idiot...Just like when you take your car in to the mechanic and it stops making that crazy sound as soon as you pull in to the parking lot! Any way, seems to be fine now, I've been running more fence all week and it does the job. It's not perfect, but I'll give it 4 stars and recommend buying it.
