These are plenty large and they'll do the job, but they do shed small particles of black plastic material. They're soft, but not soft like a fine sponge--the holes are pretty large and coarse. Overall, I'd say these are functional sponges for big, outdoor jobs that don't require strong scrubbing power (the sponge is too soft for that) but also where the disintegration of the sponge won't be problematic (like washing cooking pots). They're good for the stated purpose of wiping down a muddy or hot horse, and you could use them for a car wash, but in both cases I'd want to be very thorough in rinsing the horse or car afterward.

my horses love when i rub them down with these. i have one girl that pushes the others out of the way because she loves her neck scrubs. they are made well and should last a few brushes for each sponge. good quality and easy to use.
