I did a bunch of research on this and chose this because I figured it should be at least guaranteed to work well with my work laptop, an HP EliteBook 840 G5 (yes, it's old), and it was probably workable with my personal laptop (Windows, Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 16IRX8H). And it turned out pretty much as expected!Refurbished version came in "like new" packaging. First thing I did was check that both computers could drive my two monitors (one 24" LG 1080p, 100Hz panel and one 32" MSI 4K, 240 Hz panel) through it. They could. Peripherals (my mic/headphones, webcam, and keyboard/mouse) were fine and operational. The dock is capped at 60 Hz for my resolution, which was fine with me, since I directly connect my gaming laptop to my primary monitor when I need a higher refresh rate. The second thing I did was check the overall functionality compared to my old HP dock -- the kind with the proprietary HP-specific port. With my old dock, I could use my work laptop with it closed and wake from sleep using the power button on the dock. (It blinks when my work laptop is asleep and connected). No issues there; I can wake from deep sleep on my work laptop and work with the laptop closed. It also charges fine. So all that functionality was retained in a piece of equipment half the size. The third thing I did was check the functionality with my gaming laptop. The 4K OLED picture is gorgeous. However, I cannot work with my gaming laptop closed with this dock. I suspect this is an issue with my laptop or its settings, but it could also be the dock. This is fine for me because I half-expected it, and got a horizontal laptop storage situation for that reason. So I just keep my work laptop closed on the bottom shelf and my personal open on the top. This means that all I have to do is move the USB-C cord between the two to switch from work mode to personal. With all that said, I would probably give this a 4.5 stars if I could. There are just enough USB ports for my set-up (though I have a back-up USB hub for overflow just in case), and I would say I use an average to slightly more than average amount of peripherals. There have been some minor issues with audio routing, but because I tend to use my headphones/mic set-up for everything, this isn't a big deal to me. The biggest problem I faced was attempting to use the HDMI port with my dual monitor display. It did not work properly, and I gave up almost immediately. Instead, I use a DP - DP connection for my main monitor and a HDMI (output) - DP (source) connection for my side monitor. I already had the HDMI - DP cable from previous adventures trying to get a KVM switch set-up to work, so again, this was not a big deal for me. I would, however, definitely recommend, at least for anyone trying a have set-up like mine, using the two DP ports for a dual monitor set-up (even if it means using an adapter cable!) rather than trying to mix-and-match. If you haven't bought your monitors yet, then I would recommend monitors with DP ports over HDMI for this dock. Just make sure to use appropriate cables for whatever resolution you are aiming for.Other minor considerations would be: cable management. The cable situation can get a little unwieldy depending on where you have your devices situated because while the power cord is cleverly tucked underneath and goes out the back, the USB-C connector to the source comes out the front. The peripheral and display ports are well-located though.Overall, great value compared to other docks, decent connectivity, and the dock is built solidly. (Can you tell that I added this line just so Amazon would tell me I wrote a helpful review).

Even with this being a refurbed unit. It was packaged perfectly, still looks brand new, and operated immediately upcoming hooking it up. It connected great with the monitors I hooked ip to it and my HP 360 envy laptop. I had to get this docking station because the dell thunderbolt one I had wouldn’t work well with my HP! I’m hoping this HP dock will last me awhile!

I think this dock might be a little buggy. It does not always register my monitors and occasionally my USB keyboard will wig out. Most of the time it’s fine so I don’t really care, but it’s good to keep in mind.

I have a docking station through work but purchased this one to use at my camper for those days I need to do work. This is exactly what I needed and works wonderfully with my laptop.

I own Dell WD 19, Kensington SD4780B, and this one. I like this one the best, and Dell's the least. Dell's WD19 could support a QHD and a FHD dual display but only for a year; now it only support single QHD plus XGA (1024x768). the Kensington is also about one hundred dollar, worked well for dual FHD. This HP is really well designed for being compact thus less space occupying. It is the same device my employer (a federal agent) use therefore I bought it knowing it will work with my Dell laptop. It support one 4K and one FHD without hiccup. USB ports are plenty and working fine. It charges my Dell laptop okay so it delivers enough power as advertised. It is cheapest among the 3 docks I bought (all used) and it appears lightly used. It deserves 5-star if it can last 2-year or more.

This item was still defective when I received it. Let me document my problems:1) The only USB connectivity I could achieve was that my laptop knew it was there. No peripherals worked. I had to do updates to the drivers and firmware of both my laptop and the docking station to get it to work.2) Once I got it working, it only ever worked intermittently. If I did connect successfully and then either disconnected the laptop or powered it down, I had to reboot both the dock and the laptop to reconnect.3) Even that stopped working after a week. I could no longer connect for any reason.4) I was never able to power my laptop through the USB port.I returned the item after fighting with it for about 10 days. HP got new ones in stock right around this time and I bought one. It worked as expected out of the box. No updates were needed. It powers the laptop fine and it allows me to connect and disconnect from my HP Elitebook laptop without issues. The return has been simple.Whoever is doing the renew work for this product either did not renew the one I received or they did not test it before shipping it out. I would NOT recommend buying any renewed HP docks.
