I chose this as a replacement battery for a Yeasu ft-817nd radio. Specs looked good as were the reviews. The product arrived quickly and was well packaged. Very pleased at this point. However, when I opened the package for the install I found the connector was broken and one of the wires separated from it. Could not find any broken pieces in the packaging so I assume it was packed in this manner. In process of returning the item.

So far the battery is working nicely in the FT-818. Time will tell how well the battery pack performs.

Even though the original battery was still working in my FT-817, it was definitely showing a reduced capacity from its original 1400 milliamp hour rating. Installing this new 2000 milliamp hour battery made a huge difference. A completely worthwhile upgrade at a reasonable price.

So far, with just one charge / discharge cycle, I'm pleased. It fits well, but seems easier to latch the cover better when it is installed label down because the wires at the top push the battery towards the latch and make it a bit difficult to close the hatch. With the label side down the connection wires push the battery pack away from the latch. It will fit either way though, as you can see in the pictures. On to the battery's performance. When I received it, it showed a nominal charge of 9.6 volts, so since it was a 2000ma battery pack, I gave it a 10 hour charge after reading the Yaesu charges at about 250 ma. That should be just about right. All the following values are with the radio scanning active frequencies with almost no TX, just a couple of TX times throughout the test to see that the voltage didn't sag to the point of no TX, it never did. It always showed full power out. 07:00 the starting voltage showed 10.6 after a full 10 hour charge, The voltage dropped as the test continued, after 5 hours (12:00) it showed 9.4 volts and one segment of the battery icon missing, at 8.9 volts the battery icon was empty of any segments but the radio still would TX at full power, at 8.4 volts the empty icon started flashing. I ended the test there (13:30) and put it back on a 10 hour charge. Obviously with more TX, the capacity would be depleted sooner, but I was curious how long it would receive, according to my unscientific test I got about 6-1/2 hours of run time. Pretty good. I did inspect the pack before I gave it the second charge for leakage or bulging, and noted nothing abnormal. Fingers crossed since time will tell. Cheers.

It is hard to get the process of connecting a few batteries and wrapping them in shrink wrap wrong but so many produce complete garbage daily. However, this is not one of those. Fits into the radio perfectly, lasts a lot longer then even a new OEM battery, and is significantly cheaper - also less aggravation than some that come with a new battery cover and specialist charger.

This battery installed easily, if not absolutely perfectly, into the tight FT 817 battery compartment. I have not had it long enough to estimate its useful life.

Got this to replace the long-since-dead pack that came with my FT-817 (original version). It fits like the original, charges like the original, but definitely lasts longer. The price is right and helps breathe new life into an older rig. The internal battery isn't super useful for much other than monitoring, but it's so much more convenient in that scenario than an external battery. If you've been putting off replacing your OEM battery, just do it!
