I really expected this to be easier to use and rather intuitive. Unfortunately, it seems like there's a very steep learning curve for both me and the robot.Initial steps seem kind of backwards. After placing the base and the antenna, following the directions, you eventually probably have to move both once you attempt to use it. There's no testing before you get everything settled.Ignore the cute pictures where it's snuggled up against the fence. The mower and the antenna have to be out in the open at least 6 ft from anything that could possibly obstruct its view of the sky; this even means that if it's near a wall and has a clear view of the Southern sky, it still isn't good enough.Mapping was incredibly frustrating and took far longer than needed. There were a few chats with the online support. Then an update came through and things got a little better.Eventually the robot, app and I figured out how to best map things out and it did work better.I ordered the 4G addition for both the theft possibility and because there are many trees and likely less than stellar Wi-Fi throughout the yard, so I wanted to increase the likelihood it would be functional as needed. This still leaves the robot lost in the yard, unable to map out it's mowing plan or find its way home sometimes.Ended up buying the all-terrain tires. Highway robbery. They don't do that much. But they do allow it to dig deeper trenches when it gets into a tough spot. Did I mention frustrating? If it finds a tough situation and you have to get it out of there, it likes to go directly back and strand itself again. You can dictate which direction the mower goes in, which should be very helpful when you have slopes or narrow areas. I'm still waiting for it to follow my directions and only mow in the direction I have set. Again, it likes to go its own way and find the most inconvenient way to mow. This way, it can get stuck or lose its balance and turn up.I turn up, I mean that the front, with the big wheels is much heavier than the back. So if it is mowing in the wrong direction, it will obviously not keep that lighter end on the ground; on even a slight slope. The tree lawn, with a curb and the street on the other side, has proven to be of great challenge. I cannot allow it to mow these areas unattended. It has no ability, or just doesn't use it, to avoid following off of a curb. And just when you think he's done really well getting himself back up and decide you can turn your back, he fully gets himself into the street. I'm thinking of getting him one of those bicycle flags so at least he can be seen by an approaching vehicle. You would think that mowing near the street would be the only time to fear that it might go into the street. You would think. One time, it got lost in the driveway and after I reset it, it took off and made it be line for the street; a good 15 feet run. Absolutely no part of the mapping tells it to take that route, or anything near it.It is nice that even if I can't trust it tomorrow on its own, I can keep an eye on it. For areas where it gets in real trouble and I haven't yet figured out how to help it not hurt itself, you can remote control mow it. It's a little hard on your hands, as you have to hold the "mow" icon whilst directing it with your other hand. If it has, I have not yet figured out gesture controls; this would be helpful. All in all, I can't say that I hate it. And it is so quiet and much nicer than traditional lawn mowing. But for the price, it is incredibly frustrating. Especially given that you have to keep buying bigger better parts for it to get it to do what should come standard.Maybe by the end of next summer, the mower, app and I will have grown and learned how to best work together. Then maybe I could give it three or four stars. Unfortunately, at this point, I've had it over a month and can't run it without having to save it from itself and the dangerous situations it puts itself in
