Get performance out of your audio setup with the ZEN CAN Signature. High-fidelity or high quality headphones, most audio sources, like your smartphone, computer, tablet or digital audio player, don’t provide enough power to move the drivers of your headphones to produce the sounds they’re capable of making. The Zen CAN Signature delivers up to 1890mW of power with four adjustable gain settings to perfectly match gear. It has a Class A discrete circuit, a fully symmetric dual-mono amplifier design and boasts a astoundingly low noise floor of 122dB. Use the standard 6.3mm output for single ended TRS connections or take full advantage of our balanced topology with the 4.4mm pentaconn TRRS output. Connect up to three different analog sources with a 3.5mm single ended line input, a RCA left and right channel, and a balanced 4.4 input. You can also use it as a preamp with precision analog volume control by connecting a power amplifier or active studio monitors to the 4.4mm balanced line out. Customize your experience even further with these selectable analog features: xSpace - corrects bass frequencies for a more natural sound, and HD6XX - a switchable EQ circuit specifically designed to get the most out of the HD 6XX. Called ActivEQ, this circuit calibrates the amp’s signal to complement the HD 6XX’s frequency response characteristics, thus tailoring its performance to precisely fit the headphones like a made-to-measure suit. The Precision analog sound control allows for a more precise volume selection than digital volume controls. Military Grade Aluminum makes up a sturdy and sleek exterior, while the smooth curves and edges will bring a sense of peace and tranquility to your home or office. Included is the iFi iPower2 5V adaptor, which provides clean, low noise power to

Works as advertised. A very good headphone amp. Sound wonderful. I have it working with my music streamer and HD 650 headphones.

At first it was fantastic. Then the left channel went weak. Sent the unit to Ifi for warranty. They claim it was fine to them and sent it back to me. Now I have a piece of junk. Don't buy this thing.

Bought this to run from my laptop to my PA Amplifier. Laptop has thousands of hours of music. Sound is full and crisp with great highs and lows, but there is a persistent hum that i can't remove. I am using the balanced line in and out, although have to convert to USB at computer and rca at the Amp. Any ideas appreciated! The noise is loud and always there. Moving power supplies, changing cables, rerouting, none of it changes the hum in any way.

I love a lot of things about this unit. The volume control has a nice weighted feel to it. Lots of gain setting sound levels, and clear advice as to how to use them in concert with the volume knob. The two filter functions: I'm pretty sure the "6xx" settings improves the sound with my Sennheiser 650's (which I thought were matching... but apparently there is an actual "6XX" headphone model out there!), which was already quite warm sounding, and I'm not sure about the "X–Space" filter yet. I think I have just grown to like the feeling of the soundstage where it normally is, and disabling it makes a sort of "discombobulated" sound return to tickle my inner ear. But overall, nice design, nice sound, and makes me feel happy and excited to get back to listening to sounds at my desk.As for value for money... originally I wasn't intending to drop about as much as I had on the DAC to get a headphone amp as well, and surprised that the Signature DAC did not include an amp given it has a great big knob the same size on the front. So that was a little unexpected, I don't know what else they could have done other than maybe mention it on the DAC listing? But still, the whole stack is less that I've spent on a HP amp in the past so I'd say it's still good value and of course 200% worth it if you are just using regular wired connector output from a laptop or a typical bluetooth headset. As for versatility, having multiple inputs is good: so if you have multiple sources, you can connect one via RCAs and potentially another via the 3.5mm jack.

The Signature Zen DAC + Amp combo is a step up from the regular Zen Dac V2 which I also own. The Signature stack sounds very good, on par with similar offering from Topping for example and it looks great. With any of the Sennheiser 6 series headphones, it's a perfect match, the bass boost and 3D effects do improve the sound of the headphones. And with the power supplies & cables included in the bundle it's a great value. 2 Thumbs up !

The zen can signature is a great piece of engineering and has a balanced output. The upgraded internals do make a difference in improving the sound. The hd6xx button and the x space are the best feature if you own the hd6xx headphones. Really open up the headphones. Very solidly built and sounds great.

The "iFi ZEN CAN Signature - Balanced Desktop Headphone Amp and Preamp with 4.4mm Outputs" shares most of the features of the original Zen CAN, adds a few and augments several; unfortunately, it also involves a much higher price. Front and rear panels were changed to black from silver. It employs a Class-A amplifier, avoiding much of the heat they often generate and is designed for the desktop to partner either the original Zen DAC or the recently introduced Zen DAC Signature that loses the headphone connections of the older model and thus makes the CAN Signature its essential companion. The casing style is common to several models that are all designed to be stacked in different combinations and to suit individual needs; the frontal controls and rear connections are aligned as far as possible with each other for neatness and practicality. A means to better secure three or more units, e.g. if adding the Zen Blue Bluetooth Streamer, Zen Phono etc, would be worth consideration as a stack of just two is not fully stable. The sound of the Zen DAC has the characteristic warmth associated with its Burr-Brown DAC chip and transfers it through to the CAN Signature. The Zen DAC itself provides adequate volume for most 'phones, although high-impedance models (300 ohm and above), others that are inefficient or difficult to drive will seriously limit volume levels; the CAN or CAN Signature provide far higher levels of amplification. Sound levels can be moderated in 6 dB steps to avoid damaging hearing or 'phones. The linear volume control will reduce volume when needed, adjust for differing levels between recordings and can be disabled by a rear-mounted switch when using balanced inputs.Besides the unit, a short dual RCA inter-connector and a 3.5 to 6.3mm headphone adapter are included. A new addition is the iPower X low noise PSU, an upgraded version of that suggested for the original Zen DAC and Zen CAN; however it has extensive illumination comprising several white bars and an illuminated iFi logo when a single LED would have sufficed. The original CAN includes a basic third-party PSU by default. While the suggested default interconnect is a 4.4 mm 5-core balanced cable, one is not included but a £69 option from iFi - all their inter-connects are high-priced. The included RCA cable appears to provide more than adequate performance, without perceptible interference or noise thus far that the balanced cable supposedly also helps avoid. Small pinhead LEDs illuminate when power is ON and when a selection is made on a control. Unlike on Zen DAC, the volume control on this has no rear illumination. When purchased, it was not fully understood that it was totally dedicated to the HD6xx although that was later confirmed by iFi's Techs. Using other headphone brands is therefore likely to lead to disappointment - the Zen CAN is the appropriate solution and more affordable! Its also later found from another source that there is a small number of Sennheiser 'phones that are incidentally supported although most, as with other brands, will likely be less than successful. The CAN Signature has inputs for 4.4 mm balanced jack, dual RCA plus a single-ended (AUX) option chosen by button switch. Output options are again 4.4mm balanced 'phones, dual RCA plus a 6.3mm unbalanced headphone socket, hence the adapter that many headphones will need. Brands aside, the ideal partner for both Zen amplifiers will be higher-end 'phones retailing in the £200 to £400 price range, or above. The pricing differential between the older CAN and current Signature is significant but half its £100 price rise can be attributed to the much upgraded iPower X PSU which itself retails at £99, double that of its predecessor, and completely redesigned with significant performance gains including but not limited to electronic EMI filtering and higher amperage. The balance is probably explained by the improvements to the parent unit. When partnering appropriate 'phones the performance gains from XSpace and HD6xx functions, especially when used together, will be dramatic. Each alone offers some benefits but they augment each other very effectively. The HD6xx paired with the CAN signature will advance them to another, higher level of performance.POSTSCRIPT - A Zen DAC Signature was later added as its natural partner and the original Zen DAC used elsewhere.
