What is ignition switch ?
The ignition switch is one of the most important electronic components. It is usually located on the steering column, just behind the ignition lock cylinder. The two work together to power on and start the vehicle. When you insert and then turn and hold the key at the “start” position, power is supplied from your vehicle’s battery to the starter motor to start the engine. The ignition switch has several positions that power on different systems as the key is turned. Most ignition switches will activate the electrical accessories on the first position, power on the fuel and ignition systems on the second position, and crank the engine on the third.
To determine if you have ignition switch problem rather than starter motor problems listen to see for the sound of the starter motor actuating. If you can hear nothing there is actually a ignition trouble because a bad starter motor will usually produce a click.

How to replae the ignition switch?
- Disconnect the vehicle's battery.
- Remove the steering column cover bolts.
- Remove the steering column cover(s).
- Locate the ignition lock cylinder.
- Remove the cover on the ignition lock cylinder.
- Remove the Ignition lock cylinder.
- Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the housing.
- Loosen the screws on top of the ignition lock assembly.
- Install the new ignition lock and the old cylinder. Test the operation of the new ignition lock.
- Reconnect the battery terminals. Clear error codes with a scan tool.

The keys work for the ignition and the doors, but when pulling the keys out of the ignition I have to fiddle with the ignition to release the keys. Great value to have matching keys, easy to install, not the best build quality on ignition.

Jai changé l'initiion dans mon rabbit 2009 la cle était coincé le sterring lock a jammer je nai eu aucune difficultés a installer la nouvelle pièce sa me semble dune bonne qualité et pour l'instant fait le travail a noter que les bolt ne son pas fourni jai réinstallé les bolt de sécurité d'origine

I bought this for my 2006 Jetta because I was having problems with the key not turning far enough to reach the “run” or “start” positions. Installation was tedious because access is limited, but It fit and worked perfectly. However here I am just three months later and this unit is binding and failing the way the original one did. Poor value, would not recommend.
