The item say 12x12x1 inches. It is only 9.5 inches round, so now I know why it is returned so often

It was a little difficult to get the hole covered, however that could be a combination of my lack of knowledge about wood burning stoves, or possibly it wasn't the exact right size. But eith a friend's help, and adding a couple screws we got the hole covered.

It does not stay put with the things that should hold it in the chimney. I had to tape it on.

We sold our home that had a wood fireplace insert but the new owners didn't want any of it, so they asked us to remove the wood stove but agreed for us to keep the flue there, but asked us to put a cover on it so cold air wouldn't come in. We agreed and found this product. It came in the exact color as the picture and looked nice. The new owners of our home were happy.

I needed one of these covers to hide the flue from an old furnace that had died. We had it removed and relocated to a different part of the house as this old furnace room will soon be a bedroom in a newly-built apartment. I needed something that was decorative (to a point), as the brick wall will be exposed as a 'decorative element' for the room. This works great. The 'adjustable' factor are these bendy steel flaps that are spot-welded to the plate, and you just pry them away from the plate itself, and slide it into the flue opening, and it holds like a charm. You DO need the metal collar that is in the chimney (the one the stove pipe or flue was attached to), and if you don't have one, go to Home Depot or Lowes and get the one that fits the hole.I used a gap-sealing foam with mine (I used a DAP product I got in the paint department--it had a small delivery tube which I thought would be beneficial, and it's white), sealing the flue collar to the brick chimney, and running a thick bead around the opening before I slid in the plate. I also filled in any gaps around the outside edges, wiped it all down with a rag to clean it up, and it looks great. It's sealed, so I don't have to worry about the inevitable spiders that are sure to make that area their home, or any drafts or left-over oil-burning-furnace smells.Oh, and when I took it out of the box, mine was black...which is fine. Apparently there are other colors available through different vendors, but you can have any color you want with a can of primer and a can of spray paint of your choice. I would, of course, paint it BEFORE you install it.PRO: Price, ease of use, 'adjustability' factor, a little old-fashioned, but decent design;CON: Wish there were a couple other designs to choose from, something a little more contemporary, a traditional (which I would call this) and maybe even something a little more Victorian or the like for people that like that sort of thing.

After buying a 100 year old house and peeling layers of wallpaper off the kitchen, I discovered a giant hole in the wall. Turned out, that hole was where an old stove pipe used to be hooked up to the chimney. Since I didn't want to have a giant hole in my wall, I went in search of a cover. Luckily I found this pretty quickly. Since part of my kitchen walls are already black, this goes really well. The product picture doesn't give you a good idea of what it looks like so I will try to upload a picture of my own. It basically looks like a plate type thing hanging on the wall. I don't even notice it anymore. I only gave it 4 stars because I wish it would seal the hole a little better. As it is, the cover won't come off the wall on it's own but it took a few tries to get it to stay, and I feel it's not tight enough to keep anything (spiders) from crawling out of the chimney and into my kitchen. I'm sure there is something I could buy to seal it completely, I'll just have to look into it.
