In the world of flat people and scenery, this product excels. I not only use it for towns and villages, but if I need to cover a particular part of a larger building I can use these for the “fog of war,” like how in The Return of the King, the Battle of the Pelennor Fields shows how chaos, misinformation, and limited perspective can shape the outcome of a battle. The defenders of Minas Tirith are already overwhelmed, their walls breached, and their allies from Rohan locked in desperate combat against Sauron’s forces. The battlefield is a maelstrom of sound and fury—horns blaring, swords clashing, men and orcs alike crying out in triumph or agony. Smoke rises from the burning city, dust clouds obscure the horizon, and no single commander has a complete picture of the battlefield. Then, out of the distance, the Black Fleet of Umbar appears on the river Anduin. For Gondor’s defenders, already exhausted and outnumbered, it is the worst possible sight. They believe these ships bring fresh reinforcements for Sauron, a final deathblow that will seal their doom. Their hearts sink, their resolve weakens, and some begin to despair. The fog of war in this moment is real—not just literal, with the smoke and dust clouding their vision, but also psychological, as fear and misinformation spread through the ranks. What they do not know—what they cannot know in the moment—is that the fleet is not under Sauron’s control. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and the Grey Company have seized the ships and now sail under the banner of the White Tree of Gondor. The arrival of these ships is not a signal of defeat but of salvation. When the ships draw close and Aragorn unfurls his banner, the tide of battle shifts instantly. Despair turns to renewed hope. The fog of war is lifted, and what seemed like the end for Gondor becomes a decisive moment of victory.Tolkien masterfully illustrates how limited information, the chaos of war, and psychological uncertainty can influence perception and decision-making. The defenders of Minas Tirith didn’t know the truth until it was almost too late, proving how fog of war—both literal and figurative—can change the course of battle.

Good quality but way overpriced for a couple pieces of plastic with color printed on them.
