much better than the stick kine, it is easy to read and holds the measurement while you move it.

This tire tread gauge is surprisingly well-built and works as expected. It’s easy to use and the color codes make reading the results easy as well. I particularly appreciate the carrying bag it comes with, which will help preserve/protect the glass. I would recommend this gauge.

Comes in handy. I use it before I take our cars to maintenance. It matches the Service results. I also check on occasion to determine if its time to buy tires.

Initially, plunger may move stiffly. After a couple days use, plunger loosens up and more easily. Dial can pop out to adjust needle for calibration. Way better than any pocket depth gauge. Have compared this new gauge to many other depth gauges, it really opened my eyes to seeing how inaccurate the pocket tread depth gauges are.

A coin probably would tell you if you need new tires, but this tells you approximately how much longer your tires will last. I used it before a long driving trip to make sure I wouldn't run my tires bald before I got back. Was confident in the measurement and it worked out great.

This didn't come with instructions, but then I realized it was pretty obvious. You push the wider pin on top until the gauge reads zero. Then the thinner pin on the bottom is sticking out pretty far. You just place that thinner bar in the groove of the tire and push down until the flat part of the gauge hits the tire tread. Easy peasy. I found out my tires were still in the green so good for another winter season. This way if the tire place tries to tell me they are no good, I'll know they are scamming me. There is no battery or anything to go wrong on this, it is just a mechanical gauge that seems sturdy.

Ordered this product for our videographer to use to display tire tread depth to customers. Gauge was on the higher end of the price scale but the quality seems to match up. The 'Green/Yellow/Red' is easy to read and understand and displays easily on the video being sent to customers. Would buy this product again.

A tire gauge with moving parts should move freely in my opinion. In this case the gauge depth needle was stuck from the factory. Like others have stated, just clean it with alcohol to get the factory lube out of the way and used rifle lube or if you absolutely have to sacrifice quality and longevity use... WD40. [WD40 is very aggressive and will gum up over time basically causing you to repeat this initial process over again.]Overall the gauge is accurate and as well made as the $30 SnapOn one I left in a customers' vehicle. I honestly think they are all made in the same factory with just different screen-printed inserts. If you ever need to calibrate the needle, the front face comes off and you can make micro adjustments.

This gizmo is absolutely outstanding! I was very impressed. Built solid and very easy to read, unlike the ones that are more like a hexagonal pencil, such as the one I returned, that I found difficult to read and that contained carcinogens or suspected carcinogens. I suppose if you just want to quickly verify that your remaining tread is within the green then the other type could be fine. But for a few dollars more you can purchase this device. You push the solid steel rod at the top down and then measure the tread depth. That's it. Magnifying glasses not needed to read the tread depth.
