The chip is clearly labeled "ASM3142", while the device itself reports "ASM2142". Other manufacturers like StarTech also seem to have this issue, though (marketing as 3142, but reporting 2142 to the host).Here's what this IO Crest controller looks like to the host:01:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. Product is described as having ASM3142 chip but I received one that reports (Windows Device Manager hardware IDs, and AIDA64) as being only previous generation ASM2142! Typical bait & switch!
