The quality of the hat is fine, but it’s simply embarrassing—and unacceptable—for a hat at this price point to be shipped in a plastic wrapper. The linen material was creased and wrinkled, causing a decision: return it or spend several hours attempting to get the hat into its proper shape. I chose to keep this hat but will never buy from this company again.

I usually purchase from Irish hat-maker Hanna Hats, but I was looking for a lightweight spring/summer hat made in Ireland. Very pleased with the product design, material and construction. Made by Hatman for Biddy Murphy.

I love flat caps and wear them often. However, traditional flat caps tend to be made of tweed so they’re warm. Lovely on a cold day, but I needed something for warm weather. This cap, being made of linen, is quite thin therefore light and cool, and fits the brief exactly.I was slightly nervous buying a hat online - I would usually want to try them on for fit - but I followed the sizing instructions carefully and found that the recommended size fits perfectly: not tight but won’t blow off unless you’re in a gale. Note: the cap is not adjustable, so spending a few minutes measuring properly to find the right size is time well spent.The cap comes out a bit flattened from the journey, but after wearing it around the house for a couple of days it had softened into shape perfectly. It’s so comfortable that I forget I’m wearing it.It is not super-cheap, but I can confirm from my long history with hats that it is fairly priced. In other words, it is a proper hat, made by hat-makers, designed and built to last; not a novelty item or a costume piece designed for a couple of parties and then landfill. The stitching is high quality, and it is very well finished overall. I’ve worn it a lot since purchase, and it’s certainly robust. I’ve not been precious with it - I’ve played golf in it, I’ve travelled with it, I’ve packed it in rucksacks - and it’s looking better than ever. As long as you don’t abuse it too much, it should give years of happy wear.I liked it so much I bought a second one in a different colour.One small thing to note (which is not a problem for anyone who looks at the pictures): I wouldn’t actually call this a “newsboy” cap. It has a classic flat cap style, not the baggier Gatsby / Peaky Blinders style that is more often called “newsboy”.

Biddy Murphy hats are wonderfully made using expert craftmanship. Hat is correctly sized and fits perfectly. It's quite stylish and very comfortable, too. The packaging for shipping leaves much to be desired. Mine arrived in a plastic bag and was crushed and wrinkled. I had to use a steam iron and a steamer to get out all the creases and wrinkles before wearing. When I bought B-M's woolen hats, they arrived in a box and in perfect condition. Please do so for the summer linen hats, too.

Already have a wool cap from this company and decided that it would be a great father's day gift. This is linen so it's great for warmer months. The construction is great and may seem pricey but they last forever with the proper care. Dry clean and you won't need to buy another year after year.
