Irwin makes a fine tool. and you get what you pay for. so I tend to stay away from the cheap China tools

I already had a pair of the next larger size of this Vise Grip plier, and wanted a matching one. This one's just a bit smaller, which turns out to be OK because it'll fit in places where the larger plier won't. Same great Vise Grip quality, easy to use, and holds on like a bulldog. Not the cheapest locking plier available, but you get what you pay for.

The last set I had (different brand) had become sloppy with the two jaws going off-center. Finally, about a 3/4" piece on the tip of one jaw broke off, rendering the tool useless. This Irwin is much better built and easy to use. All the parts seemed to be much better than my old set.

The short story is that the 60-pound dog chased the 15-pound cat into the tub, but the dog wasn’t satisfied with “treeing” the cat and was determined to have the last word. As I reconstructed their game, the cat was at the back of the tub and the dog used the hot water lever for leverage to vault into the tub so he could continue the game. At least that’s what I assumed when I saw the lever handle on the tub bottom with a clean break from the wall portion. While I like my plumber, I’m not eager to pay for a replacement now since I plan to replace the tub in a year or two with a low-floor shower enclosure.Unwilling to commit to cold showers for the duration, we embarked on a “temporary” fix. We began with E-6000 glue (my favorite, purchased regularly from Amazon) and glued the lever back on using duct tape to hold it in place while the glue dried. Fortunately we didn’t have a lot of hope riding on that approach and weren’t deterred when we realized that it wouldn’t withstand another dog and cat game. We then moved to a selection of pliers and eventually borrowed a vise-grip type from a neighbor. While that worked (sort of), the vise-grips were long/heavy and not a good fit for the stubby valve.Since we were halfway to a solution, we found a smaller size here with good reviews and fast delivery. After it arrived we quickly replaced the borrowed tool and declared this one “just right” especially since its vertical placement means it’s not an option for future canine leverage.
