Material too thin does not provide warmth

I bought this sweater for a book loving friend as a gift and the print is so cute. The print is very clear but I am concerned if it will peel or fall off when washed. It has a strange texture to it is all. Other than that the material is very thin which I wasn’t anticipating. I was expecting more of a sweatshirt material but in reality it is as thin as a tee shirt. I am satisfied with what I got because I feel as if I got what I paid for though.
