So here's the deal; when I used the two dowels that extend into the hole saw, it wobbles and makes an ugly hole. I found that I got better results when I let the saw bottom on the threads, but then it's harder to remove. So yeah, it's ok.

This works as advertised. the only drawback is that the bit is too short for my hole saw kit. I bought this as a replacement for my kit which is a deep bore (Blue Boar) set. there is no length indicated for this drill bit and it turned out to be too short. so I had to replace the actual bit but otherwise, the mandrel seems well made and should stand up to the work I have to do.
