Precautions for Wood Handle Hammer

We inspect all hammers before shipping them from Japan.

However, due to the difference in humidity between Japan and other countries, the wood may shrink, and the handles may become loose.

Make sure that the head is not loose before use. If there is looseness in the hammer head, take the following measures.

Japanese Hammer

When there are loose right out of the box

Pour water over the top of the head.

The wood will expand and stabilize the handle.

Japanese Hammer

When you feel a slight loosening during use

Tap the butt with another hammer or against the workbench.

Make sure there is no looseness before use.

i have used it to sink nails, adjust the depth of my kanna blades, tap on the butt end of my chisels - everything - a good solid hammer, and a really good weight and heft - not a framing hammer, a fine work showpiece

As one other review previously stated the head of the hammer arrived loose. It seated easily, but it would have been nice if it had arrived with a little more attention to detail. Otherwise, it's a nice hammer. I purchased the 20 ounce hammer. I've found the extra weight to be a nice feature. If the head had arrived fully seated I would have given it 5 stars, but this seems to be a reoccurring issue.

Just ok. Wood handle appears unsealed. The head of the hammer is roughly finished and loose. I enjoy the shape and weight, so hoping to get the wobble out of the head and use it.
