60 day impression with exhaustive measurements: It's better than other instruments in the price point like wildfire guitars. I think firefly/grote have some better quality out of the gate but this is an incredibly charming size and has its own style which is why I bought it. It's the size of a squier mini but the neck feels better. This took someone's time and energy to dream up. It's not a mustang, it's not a strat, it's definitely not Gibson clone... It's charmingly flawed in some places (tremolo) but plays well and sounds nice. It does need a setup for the intonation and cleanup on the nut.I bought this primarily to modify. Some parts are standard, some aren't since it does its own thing. Enjoy the info dump.Teardown:Finish: there's some yellow and red polishing compound in the finish. It buffs out. The color is true to pics and the pain feels thin (good thing). It's not perfectly level so you might see some striping but it reminds me of early guitars.Headstock: it's an Strat style headstock with 6 in line tuning pegs but it has a "beak" on it. The CNZ audio logo looks out of place. I am going to remove it. 14.9 mm thickness.String Trees: thin metal. Very inexpensive. I would recommend changing those to help with tuning stability.Tuning pegs: Grover style tuners. Not enough precision for tuning up. It's very easy to miss your pitch. They were hand tightened and the shafts are shaky. I'd upgrade them. They're 9.8 mm collars with mini oval buttons. Standard guitar tuners fit in the headstock without modification.Nut: The nut is very rough. Mine had barbs when I bought it so I used a few grits of sandpaper to knock it down. It's 42.3 mm wide with a string spacing of 6.5 mm.Neck: The neck feels great and hard to find something at this scale length (22", 558.8 mm). 55.4 mm neck pocket and joins ~15th fret.Fretboard: the fretboard is dry by has a really nice color. It felt much better after hydrating it.Frets: 22 frets. no fret sprout but they were gritty. I polished them with 000 steel wool for 2 minutes and they feel great. They are short (1.5mm) and narrow (2.5 mm)Pickups: pleasant sound and surprisingly quiet/no hum and not microphonic. 85 x 34.1 mm covers with 9.4 mm pole spacing. They are mounted in the body with a piece of thick foam (like a yoga mat) under them in lieu of springs. Foam was crooked in mine so neck pickup doesn't raise on the trebel side. You have to unmount the neck pickup to remove the pick guard.Pick guard: hand cut and charming like early guitars. 12 screws. 3 ply. You're not going to find an off-the-shelf guard to fit. It has a good feel.Electronics: it works! Dime sized Pots. Pots and capacitor are unlabeled. It's a circuit board switch. No issues with the jack. Space to upgrade to "better" electronics if desired.Plastic knobs and switch tip: surprisingly nice. They feel thick and aren't sticky. They didn't deform when I pulled on them. 5.9 mm pot shaft, 12 ridges, split shaft.Tremolo/vibrato:Strat style.Trem block is thin (6.5 mm x 61.4 mm) at its smallest point. It is wider where it meets the bridge (~72 mm). It's 36mm tall and the route is 44.7 mm deep so there's room to upgrade. String spacing is ~13.5 mm.Trem claw is aluminum. There are three springs that are suspended high in the body. I used felt to quiet them. The springs are overkill for this scale length if you plan to float your bridge.Trem cover: 142.9 x 90 mm. matches the pick guard with an offset screw pattern. Some rough barbs around the string hole. The cover is raised and not inset into the body.Trem bar: hilariously too big. It's a full sized strat bar. You do need something with that much leverage with the default spring set up. It screws in and is difficult to use because it interferes with strumming and controls significantly more than if you're using a full sized strat.Strap buttons: premium feeling mushroom caps (14.6 mm heads)Neck plate: it's miniature (49.6 x 64.8mm) and has the CNZ audio logo on it. It has a black riser on it so I suspect the neck screws are full length.Bridge: vintage strat style with 6 anchor screws. 75.3 mm width at smallest point, 84.0 at the widest point.Saddles: thin 10.2 mm saddles. It appears 10.5 mm saddles would fit no problem. These saddles aren't notched so the string can wander a bit. The screws don't have many threads so intonation is finicky to set up.

I could not find any noticable flaws. Neck/fretboard has a nice feel, not to thin. Body paint very nice. A tad heavier than expected at 6 lb 10 oz. compared to Squier version at 5 lb 7 oz. but this has better quality and sound. There is one slight disappointment, in that, the volume pot failed after 2 days of light use, cutting completely out at random. I have had disappointing customer from CNZ before, so I repaired it myself and installed a high grade CTS gold plated pot. I also went from 500k ohms to 250k ohms which made it sound a little more Fendery... (to my ear). The setup was ok but I tweaked it to my tastes for classic Surf use !

...this guitar came close. And now, is.It came with high action with too much neck relief. I good folks at CNZ Audio likely increased the neck relief to eliminate any string buzz it had. The action was 8/64ths at 12th fret which was too high, but playable, and enjoyable. When I lowered the action to a medium high 5/64ths there was a lot of fret buzz on 5th and 6th strings above 12th fret.Luckily, it was due to one high fret, the 21st fret. It would have been much more time consuming had their been many high frets and warranted a full fret level. Had the folks at CNZ Audio checked for high frets they could have fixed it correctly before sending. But, I realize they may not have that sort of time to spend on each guitar, and so they likley added neck relief until the buzzes stopped.I did enjoy my first playing with high action. But now that its truly sorted out to 4/64ths action , and with less than .005 neck relief at 12th fret, it plays really well. I wanted a short scale close to a Rickenbacker 325 ( like John Lennon's ), and didnt want strat single coil style pickups. Seeing this 22" scale with p90's got my attention. I have placed a set of TV Jones T-Armond in p90 shape into this guitar. They are Beatles-ish pickups similar to G Harrisons at that time. And, I put some flat wound strings on it. It has a great early Beatles type sound and with Ric-325 Lennon style playability. And for 169$ vs a real Ric at about 3,500$, its great. The guitar gets a nice Bossanova sound, and blues sounds too. The short scale is fun. And ultimately, this guitar is great.Neck is very comfortable C shape, not too thin. Fret ends were smooth and with mild rolled over fretboard edges. Nut at 42mm keeps the guitar feeling fuller, although with short scale length. I have a 23" scale strat copy with 39mm nut, and it is a little too cramped. This CNZ-Audio guitar, plays great, sounds great, looks terrific, and was affordable. CNZ Audio folks were very nice.

I bought this for parts and for experimenting with hardware, and also to try out a 3/4 guitar. I bought this one and the Telecaster copy because I wanted one floating bridge and one hardtail bridge.Pros--Amazingly good craftsmanship for the price. The neck is decent. The fretwork is solid and smooth and precise. The tuners work. The bridge components work. The wiring, so far, works. The cap on the pickup selector switch stays on, unlike my $700 MIM Telecaster.--The feel and appearance are good. It looks good in real life as well as in the picture. It plays pretty darn good, again for the price.--The 3/4 size is a lot of fun.Cons--The factory pickguards are complete trash and it's hard to find replacement 3/4 pickguards. The stock ones they come with are some sort of soft plastic that can be permanently scratched with nothing but fingernails. I ended up just taking mine off and holding the pickup in with tape until I think of something better. It's actually a step up for now.--It doesn't stay in tune all that well, but at this price it does a respectable job.I haven't bothered comparing the specs for all the parts and whatnot, but this feels like a Squire-level guitar. A real instrument, entry-level but decent and completely usable as an actual guitar to play actual music.
