This muffler was installed August ‘21 and i used it a few months until winter…mower sat for a year and used again spring ‘23. Shortly thereafter the mounting flange separated from the tube and that was that.. barely a weld in that area. Basically this muffler was ok for approximately 30 hours of mow time. Factory muffler lived for over 25 years.

After having our JD STX-38 riding lawn mower for several years, we really needed to replace the muffler. I'm glad we found this kit on Amazon. It was a good price, fast shipping and a perfect replacement fit. My husband got it installed without any complaints (and that doesn't happen all the time when working on things). If needed, I would order this kit again.

John Deere no longer makes this muffler for the old STX 38’s, so I was glad I was able to find a new, original part. 👍

First muffler broke at the flange. I called the provider and they replaced the item, no questions asked, and I received it the next day. Works great!!!

It arrived a week before expected, installed it with minimal issues. Old muffler broke at the manifold, didn't know the sequence of bolts/ nuts to tighten first. Be sure the gasket and pipe are on the studs and install nuts, but tighten the manifold nuts last. Made engine nice and quiet again.

Was able to re-use the self-tapping screws that hold the bottom front heat shield on (miracle #1). The old muffler top attachment bolts, to the frame, NOT the engine, were welded to the muffler brackets, so I couldn't use them over again. But had two 8x16mm bolts, nuts and lock washers on hand (miracle #2). Got old one off, and new one on in about 45 minutes. I did paint the new one with 1200F flat black grill paint the day before install. The new one exhausted out the opposite side of the mower than the old one, but the heat shield had holes on both sides to accommodate (miracle #3). I am Happy! I cut grass for an hour after install, all worked good!!!
