Barely works.I give it 2 stars because it DID work, but not before slipping a bunch of times and scratching the PLCC, no matter how tight the grip.MUCH cheaper quality than expected.

I used the Jonard EX-5 to extract some 44 Pin PLCC ICs from a socket. The product did work for my application and extracted the IC from the socket when squeezing the handles together. I did not have to pull up after engaging the tool, the squeezing action pulled the chip up by itself. This version has handles that help prevent ESD discharge in case that is something you are concerned about (I am).The first time I used this, I didn't push the grabbers far enough down. When I tried to extract it, the teeth slipped on top of the IC creating small visual marks on the edges, but did not actually damage the IC. It took another try to realize what happened and make sure you push the tool down far enough to engage the IC. It was a tight fit when inserting and the teeth did touch the IC when pushing down.
