Fits but is obviously not the same quality as OEM Mercury filter. Was a little more difficult to screw it, Threads a little rough on the filter. Paper part of the filter seems to be a different material. I went ahead and installed because i had a trip planned and no time to order another filter. Have ended up running all season with no issues.

Do NOT try to remove or install this product without the proper tool. Yes you may be able to wrestle the old one out but not likely.If you do get the old one out you probably will not be able to seat the new one even if you lube the threads and gasket. It just fits intensely tight. The tool is cheap.There are videos on youtube to show how to change it and how to service the fuel system area this filter fits into. It is an easy service and you may be surprised at the gunk you clean out.

Looks just the same as OEM; but plastic on top of filter is not as hard as original. Great for the price; thats why i would give it 4 stars

This fuel filter is identical to the original filter from Mercury, at a substantial savings. I own a 2006 225HP Mercury Optimax and this is one of the few things that I would replace myself, as I'm only a hobby mechanic. I strongly recommend that you purchase/use the inexpensive tool (wrench) for the removal of the old filter. Some people have used a flat edge screw driver horizontally to remove this filter, but you can buy this tool online for $5. Other than that, just about anyone should be able to change this filter in less than ten minutes.After installing this filter, my motor ran a little better than it did with the well used old filter. There is at least one youtube video and other online instructions on how to change this filter. Just query "Changing Optimax fuel filter" in your search provider.

Filter is constructed of cheap materials. The plastic is very thin & weak. I had to remove the filter a couple of weeks after installation for another problem & the o-ring was so distorted in regards to oversized it would not go back into place. I only use non-ethonal fuel so that was not the issue & have never had that issue with OEM filters. I donly not recommend this product.
